The Flyers poor play in the third quarter doomed them this year
- Jsaquella

I fully expect Homer to stock up on these this summer, to counter their poor quarter play:

I guess I didn't miss anything around here this past weekend. I *did* have fun last night replying to posts 10+ hours after the fact in the last blog.

You missed nothing, except #23 and I making a foray into the nightlife of Piscataway NJ.

Not at the likely cost/cap hit.

How much do you think Matt Read gets in his next deal?
- Marc D

I hope Homer will try to resign him this summer. Maybe at around 3.5M for 4-5 years. Or possibly trade him for a Dman.

He is UFA after next season. He could get 4.5M- 5M per in free agency I think.

only in a Briere for Vanek swap and even then Id have a hard time swallowing his cap hit..

The idea of him with Jake and G is very alluring though.

Huh. I was cleaning up after my wife's baby shower and forgot all about it until the second period. I half-watched it as I drifted into and out of sleep. It's like baby's already here!

June 15 - 30.
EDIT: Draft is June 30th, and I'm pretty sure with this new CBA the teams can talk to UFA's a week or so before they can be signed.

If Luongo is amnestied, would you give him $6.5M for 3 years?

So Matt Read hitting UFA in 1 year, will be 27 yrs old, good 2 way winger, small, good speed, can score (lets say 50 pts/season) good PKer.

What will he get paid and can the Flyers afford him?

Clarke MacArthur in 2011 got a two yr UFA deal, about the same age, similar size, scored 60 points the season going into UFA... got a 2 yr deal for 6.5M, 3.25M cap hit

Maybe not perfectly comparable but close enough.
Could the Flyers get a similar 2-3 year deal done at 3.25-3.5/year for Read?
Why not?

Can they fit that into their cap space? Hard to answer right now.
A lot of variables there with G, Schenn, and Couts all needing new deals the same year.
Mezzy and his 4M cap hit comes off the books that year.

It's possible. But I'd think it would be more in the 4+M range.

yes, see above.

for 3.25-3.5M they should try and re sign him.

Over 4 I start to wonder about the value.

cant believe they wont fire lavy....get ready for the same poop next year...ive never seen more injuries under one coach.

I would think Peter Laviolette is on a pretty short leash at this point. He could get canned in December if the team is floundering, IMO.

His talent is undeniable.

I have no idea what it would take to acquire him nor about how his salary fits.

Claude Giroux would probably get 40 assists just from Vanek's goals alone.

The team under Mike Keenan had quite a few injuries...he lasted a little while before they fired him. Maybe everyone's wish will be granted next year.
