Im with you on this. Holmgren should be out on his ass if he does nothing to help that blueline this summer, more than some depth guys.

He failed to make any moves when Pronger went down other than Grossman. To try and bridge the gap at the very least, or bring in a young kid for cheaper to start growing with the team.

Timonen remains but that window will soon close as well. Holmgren better not stand pat. I dont expect him to. There are pieces that can be moved for help in a crucial area of need.

Players have to be available. You can't force a team to trade you a player. Nor should he overpay and get raped in a deal, simply because of the need. They just don't need to make a move. They need to make the right move. If it's not there, then bide your time and be patient.

I thought you could move up? Just not down more than ___ (I forget the number) spots? (Doesn't really apply to the Flyers here because obviously the lowest team right now would have pick #12)
- Giroux_Is_God

No the lottery is for the 1st pick only so if a team other the Florida wins then everyone eles move down a spot

They gave up 3 1st rounders (including Sbisa) & Lupul up for Pronger who was 34 at the time now what are you thinking it will cost for somebody who is a top pair d-man who is roughly 10 years younger?

And it thinking of this price think of how much it will hurt the team now & long term with having nothing in the system (which we are already at) & in the future with all the picks you'd be moving.

- ob18

I think value-wise we lost real bad on that
Don't get me wrong Pronger is extremely valuable, and is an all time great but his age had to have been a factor. Think we can get that big Dman for mostly draft picks and acouple roster players today? I'm not suggesting this would happen but value-wise, do you think Coburn + 4 first rounders is viable for a player like Pietrangelo?

I don't get the feeling that he doesn't want to stay in Philly. With the way the team played this Season, especially defensively. There are very few Goalies in the League who could be the solution. He pretty much had to try and stand on his head game in and game out to keep the team in the game. They were that bad. I said it many times during the Season. He's not Hasek. But play solid team defense in front of him, and I believe he can play at a high level.
- MJL

I do as well. But I also have doubts about their ability to play solid team defense in front of him. Given the tirade about the media, I really do get the feeling that Bryz wouldn't mind being bought out-not because of the team, but because of the other nonsense.

It really sounded like a parting shot on his way out the door, at least to me. Others may see it differently, but it's my opinion. I don't think he gave less than his best effort nor do I think he sucked. I just don't see it working out very well

See I dont think St. Louis would even give up Pietrangelo if you offered up Giroux and Coots together.

Those elite guys, especially at a young age, are really special players. Flyers need to finally develop some D-men that can play above 20 minutes a game.

Won't happen, it's a tough market to trade for and when somebody has one even a step lower than a top pair won't make it cheap knowing they have something you want and want badly.
- ob18

It's likely that they would have to either overpay for an all star level guy, such as Yandle, or that they would end up having to settle for a younger guy with some rough edges to polish out of his game.

Of course, you see TJ Brennan dealt for a 5th rounder and it makes you think that it's possible to make a solid deal without a lot of pain.

I think they'd do it, I look at our team long term and the lack of depth we already have will suffer even more. As painful as it might be I move to a more defensive style that we saw towards the end of the season and keep our picks and learn to develop our own so we do not have to rely on trades or free agency as much as we have for the longest time.

It obviously hasn't worked and I'm not going to hurt the team now and down the road with what it will cost to land a top pair d-man.

Nope. St Louis has zero reason to trade Pietrangelo. For anything.

No, it's not viable. St. Louis is not interested in trading Pietrangelo. As I read more and more suggested deals on this site. It seems to me some don't understand that if you want other teams best players, be prepared to give up your best players. Unless it's a Pronger situation where a team is looking to rebuild, by trading an older player for young assets. If you want to trade for Pietrangelo, the offer needs to start with Giroux.

I know we would but I've long stated what I'd prefer to do and think it's long overdue to try that path.

I'm very willing to build through the draft, but it doesn't mean that it's mutually exclusive. They can trade for a good defenseman and not move picks.

I'd be happy with any one of those 11 guys but realistically I'd like to see Ristolainen or Nurse.
