Yeah, they were playing their backup goalie. All new lines. Missing two of their top 6 and the penalties were stacked against them. They were out played for a lot of the game, which I expected. However 6-1 is always a good sign. There were great things done. Potter didn't engage in either player that attacked him which got the Oil a 5-3 which I tip my hat to him. Nail and Hall showed serious chemistry for a pair that hasn't really had too much time together. This opens all new possibilities. Eberle showed the world that there are few snipers like him in the game.
Plus I think when you score 6 goals in your first 10-11 shots, you tend to coast a little after. Maybe that is just me but I would find it hard to get motivated. - bsteinley
Umm... did you even watch the game last night? Penalties were stacked against them? Both sides got 2 minor penalties, but Oilers got a 5-3. That's penalties being in your favor. Oilers were outplayed from start to finish; it's not that they coasted after getting a lead. Playing your backup goalie doesn't excuse getting outplayed in every area EXCEPT the crease. MN was playing with line combinations as well. Hall and Yak showed decent chemistry, but only when they had the puck, neither was defensively impressive.
Suggesting last night implies playoffs next year is as delusional as when Clouts was saying Oilers would win the cup this year. |

why? because the oilers have been so humble during the "3" years of their rebuild...boasting about all there top pospects.....and how they will be unstopable "next year"? - derm10

Most of us have been. sure the occasional derpasaurus brags, but most of us realize that 3 consecutive bottom 3 finishes is nothing to be cocky about. As far as bragging up some top draft picks, what did you expect? Its ALL we've got. |

Suggesting one game means much of anything as far as the Oilers next season is delusional. Suggesting one game means something for Minnesota as far as a playoff berth is concerned is far more telling. Win and they're in. Lose 6-1. |

The Oilers will have only made the playoffs once in a decade as well after this season.
Pot meet kettle.
95% of leafs fans are ok with the Kessel deal. Phil is 6th in league scoring for the 2nd straight year, only Stamkos, Malkin and Giroux have more points the last 2 seasons.
leafs fans have to put up a lot of talk about how Seguin will be a franchise talent, but we already have that in Phil.
The leafs are a young, hardworking team who will only improve. To say they will crash and burn next year to spite a blathering fan is a bit pointless. Both the leafs and oilers have a solid young core, and will be dangerous in the near future. Cheers! - GardinerExpress
They do have similarities. They could both use a more consistent goalie. I like toronto more for its depth. I like the Oiler for its top players.
I think TO needs a top tier center to push them over the edge. Bozak isn't going to win you a cup. The beauty is, with the size on your wings, you don't have our problem looking for a big center. I don't see a trade possibility but you can get away with a Gagner or a draft pick like Petan.

Clarkson to come to Edm is going to get 6 mill. That's a ton of cap. Lets say 5 yrs 30 mill. That coupled with what yaks and RNH are going to expect after what Hall and Eberle got is called cap hell. I think the islanders keep Stiet given the progress in long island - Bieksa#3
Clarkson will want too much I agree. Streit will NOT fix any defensive issues in Edmonton aside from putting up some points. neither is an answer. Clouts got on the Streit train at some point and hasn't stopped. He's an idiot. |

We are not Van. Take a look at our cap. Clarkson is not getting 6 this year. Who would offer it to him? If so we move on. I still predict prices will falter this year for UFAs. |

If the Islanders could keep striet they would have. I predict he will want to hear what his friend, our coach, Krueger has to say about how good he will look playing top 2 on our team next year. |

Agreed. Clarkson will cash in. Horton too. Out of the two, Id rather see them pursue Horton, despite the injury questions. |
