Unbelievable that Gabriel Landeskog from that east coast team called the Colorado Avalanche won the Calder last year. That was crazy.

Clouts is fcked. I'm sure with every Oiler goal he was crying just a little harder.

I think the Oilers showed all of the people that had doubt that they are playoff contenders next year. They still need the right team but I don't think Harding or Backstrom were terrible yesterday. The Oil were just amazing with their shots.

Horcoff did look out of place with the raw skill of Yak and Hall. Truthfully, I don't Think anyone short of RNH would keep up on the Oilers roster. Unless Hall moved to center.

I don't like the idea of trading gagner for someone that is more of a project. If we trade him, lets add something and get someone that has played roughly the same number of games AT LEAST. We know what we have, we should know what we are getting.

As for the pick, 4th or 7th, any player we pick is probably not going right on the team next year unless lander takes roids, we buy out horcoff and the rookie goes 4th line. Even Barkov would probably start in OKC. Be cool if he proved me wrong. I think Drouin and Jones could make teams this year. I liked Drouin with Team Canada last year. He kept up with guys like RNH. I think he could be a replacement for hemsky as early as next year if Paajarvi doesn't improve.

No way. There is no fan of hockey that could watch those goals and not be impressed. Especially eberle's. No fancy moves, just all quick release and perfect accuracy. Even I tip my hat to players that score that way against the Oilers.

As of now you guys are picking 7th. Why are you talking about players like Barkov and Drouin? Just wondering.

That Hanzal is so hot right now.
- sanfordnson

That is the problem with Hanzel though. He is "Hot" now. Not as hot as gagner was at the start of the year. Not as hot as our first line. He is only doing something RIGHT NOW. I would rather have someone like Gagner that is consistently good all the time with less size than a guy that shows up for 1 week a year.

Do you remember Clouts blog yesterday? "Lose, please lose!" To bad those beautiful goals didn't happen when it counted. No different than the Flames playing great with the AHLers.

Nail does deserve it. RNH deserved it last year IMO. The argument last year was that Lans was more of a two way player. Yak is a two way player. So if the same argument was true last year and they take that into account, Nail would be THE person. However I do agree with a bias in the votes. I think it would take a blowout this game with him getting 20 points before the NHL picks a team that is not either Eastern Canada or the US. Van, Win, Calgary and Edm are not winning any trophies.

Seriously? Edmonton was severely outplayed most of the game last night. Game was not a good sign for the team, despite it being a win.

6-1 wins are always a bad sign lol.

I do get your point and agree with it though. They really were on their heels most of the game...but goals are the only thing that matter. Edmonton capitalized on their chances. Minny didn't.

Because the needs have changed and situations arent always so clear. Trade Gagner, and create a hole at C. Trade Smid, make the D even worse. Either would need to be packaged with more to bring in anything we really need, such as a top pairing dman or a top 6 forward with size and toughness. my only point was the people I keep hearing saying "LOLZ Smid and Gagner b worth a 2ndzz maybee hawhaw", need to just stop.
- sanfordnson

You don't think we have the ability to bring in UFA Clarkson? And if so, do you think he can replace Hemsky? and play opposite Eberle on a line with RNH? Then we can use Gagner and Hemsky to trade for assets or players that can be used to get us a center that can keep up with Nail and Hall?

Or do you think we could land a guy that did his high school on the border of Alberta and Sask, in Vinny? I have to figure he will be a UFA and then we have a veteran that can fill the whole until our first round pick is ready. I am thinking a 3 year deal at 5 mil. Then still go after Clarkson and Striet as UFA's. Then we can trade Hemsky, Nick and Gagner for a 3-4 dman or maybe for draft picks, which we can use to move up in the draft. Fill the cupboards again.

This will get us two big guys with talent. A 1-2 d. A dman a little better than nick that can't cost more than he is being paid and if so it will be marginal. Plus we get Horcoff's or Landers replacement in the draft. Or maybe we secure two more first round picks. Give two to Florida and someone for their pick. Maybe they like Seth, maybe they don't but they have more holes than just adding another dman to play with Campbell.

Gagner and Smid together might get a late 1st. Hemsky and a 2nd to take the bad contract for a bag of pucks. This team is in serious trouble unless they can get some decent veteran help.

Easy to trade that pick now. I still wonder if MacT would trade it if it was top 4?

LOL a Toronto fan being cocky after his team makes the playoffs for the first time in almost a decade. By the way in that time frame you guys could've had seguin and Hamilton(2nd and 9th overall). You also picked 5th overall last year. You picked 7th in 2009. 5th in 2008. Those are pretty high picks too!

Because the point is, picking 4th didn't help us for next year. Our team has shown the are ready now. We can do with Monahan and be fine. Barkov and Drouin will be great and Drouin could be an NHLer next year but without trading up, we were never going to be in a spot to fill a roster hole.

Sam Gagner is 23 years old, 5'11'' and weighs 195 lbs. He has at this point played 47 games with 14 goals and 23 assists for 37 points. He is a -9.

Claude Giroux is 25 years old, 5'11'' and weighs 172 lbs. He has at this point played 47 games with 13 goals and 34 assists for 47 points. He is a -8.

Trading Gagner at this point would be one of the stupidest moves to make. He is not injury prone and has not reached his full potential. At this point in time is the Oilers first line center until RNH gets his career back on track.

I am only saying that he is one of the two that could make the team next year and our small skilled forwards put on a clinic last night. But that is not the point. If Drouin is available you either trade down or replace Hemsky and Gagner for a center with size. He would free our hands to get rid of two small forwards.
