Except that the Oilers jumped two places in the standings, your first pick is getting worse. Still, admire the pride by the guys to compete, they should have a parade - 1970vintage
I could care less where they draft, and hope they package up that pick to acquire solid veteran help. The time for drafting is over. The time for moves has come. The onus is on MacT now. |

Really, no retort to my pride parade reference, I'm so disappointed. |

So, which two teams show up tonight? The mighty Oilers that scored 4 goals on 5 shots against the Canucks or the pitiful group that went from 8th to 14th in the course of a week? The Canucks that put the mighty Hawks under their foot, or the one that barely managed an effort against fowl light?
I don't really mind either way, just trying to plan my night off and whether or not hockey is involved |

I would suggest you watch any game but the canucks. That LA/SJ game looks good. |

I always enjoy a good train wreck so either way is good for me, as long as one team completely poos the bed.
Hoping CBJ makes the playoffs and our arch-rival the Wild don't. |

I've got the Center Ice package, I'm going to be watching that Minny/Colorado and Columbus/Nashville games more than I will the Canucks/Oilers. That's going to be THE games to watch, whether Columbus can squeak in and will Minny implode completely. |

Bang on. You guys are in desperate need of a shane doan and #1 defenseman type player. Perhaps one of Hall Nuge Ebs or Yak should be on there way out.
For the sake of the franchise i sure hope so. |

Would hurt to see any of them, but I have a feeling its coming. The 1st, Gagner, MPS, next years 1st. All pieces that could be used. Try and move Hemsky for whatever is possible. Ditto Smytty. Buy them out if necessary. Smyth and Hemsky are remnants of the past and done. Horcoff however, can still game and his contract essentially makes him unmovable anyways.Bye bye Khabi and Whitney. Pursue Horton in free agency. Hope to God they stay away from Streit and Clarkson. Try like hell to bring in a Hartnell or a Simmonds.

This seems a far more sober assessment than Cloutier's blogs. I have never agreed with him that Hemsky (or Smid) could net a 1st rounder. If they could, it would have been done already. Gagner could net a 1st, but doubtful it would be top 10 1st, although you never know. I wouldn't trade Gagner until I got another 1st/2nd C though, they don't grow on trees and Horcoff can't fill in as a 2 C anymore.
I think at this point the Oilers need to move out of the rebuild mentality and into trying to put together a contender. Therefore all of your picks should be on the table in potential trades. If I'm MacT I make a big push for Weber that includes one of your #1's. Something like Yaks, Smid, 2013 1st, 2014 1st for Shea Weber. |

Why not Streit? That guy has the kind of offensive skills on the back end that the Oilers could really use. Plus he's a pro who has worked his way up to the NHL toiling in the Swiss leagues and then flourished on Long Island despite their dearth of talent and crap management. Seems like a perfect fit for an Oiler team trying to improve their break out and PP. |
