So this is an asterisk season?

For evaluation purposes, I would hope so.

They still have my blessing to give out the Stanley Cup, though.

My opinion is that Holmgren is going to keep both Lavi and Bryz next season with a line in the sand saying that if either screws up they are gone.
Lavi has to adjust to our competitors who've been spanking us the last few seasons. And Bryz needs to improve his numbers and prove that he is the goalie for us with a more defensive system in place.
And they better frelling work together cuz if one falters they both will...

- FlyersGrace

im a bryz supporter but i think he should be bought out. Hes a good goalie but he cant deal with the media circus in this town and its evident....

Lavy is stubborn....if it wasnt for all of his defense man getting hurt he wouldn't have changed his system... bottom line he needs to go.

In addition to Briere, Bryz, Lavi, Carter, and Carle, I think some blame also has to be assigned to the following people:

Timonen - next year's $6M cap hit has something to do with this seaon's performance somehow.

God - clearly hates healthy Flyers' defensemen.

Jaroslav Modry - I think he's still trying to build up the speed necessary to get off the ice after the 2008 Caps series.

Satan - clearly favors the Devils whenever they play us

Adam Sandler - his movies have really taken a dive the last 10 years or so.

Um, I hope never? Considering some of the things that are avatars on HB outside this thread mine is fairly tame. Why you want something else?
- FlyersGrace

No. they just deleted the two chain mail girls we posted yesterday fairly randomly and without explanation. It kinda irritated me. Considering some of the things that get posted here regularly the fact that someone got so uptight over two women in chain mail who were completely covered in all the appropriate places seemed exceptionally prudish to me.

So Lavi/Mullen need one PP plan for when it doesn't matter, and another PP plan for third periods and tied games?

As I mentioned yesterday, the Flyers have pretty much tried everything in the past 40 years... except for being patient with what they have, including staff.

Doesn't it always feel like they're always taking one step forward, one step back with all the splashy acquisitions, hirings/firings, identity swaps? So what if this team doesn't have a Shea Weber, or a Lundqvist, or doesn't turtle into defensive shell in all three zones... it doesn't mean they can't grow into ridiculously good team given some time to come together.

- Tomahawk

Sticking with something for a change might do them some good. I just think the staff might have to be changed ... again.

I more or less can get on board with this. But the grass (Mason, new coach) isn't always greener on the other side. For Lavi, it depends if he can adapt or not. I think he'll be on a short leash if they keep him.

As for Bryz, I'm torn. He's been good here, but he hasn't been what's expected. I think he CAN be the goalie the team needs, but I don't know if he will.

sometimes I like to embellish to make a point. I can't help it and usually try to restrain it however emotion kinda took over today.

In my own defense, I tried giving briere a chance. And no I was not on that bandwagon from day one, more like on the fence. But it's become evident to me over a period of 2 years his flaws out weigh his positives. In contrast to the bryz haters they haven't given him a chance since day one. Furthermore as i mentioned with the Carter haters, which is far more relevant, they arbitrarily don't bash Briere for the same poop carter was guilty of and he was a bit of a developing player when he left.

- JoeRussomanno

It's cool. I just find it really off to get this way about Briere when you've been so supportive of Bryz against similar vitriol (and plenty of them 'gave him a chance'). Why would you want to be like them, even if directed at a different player?

Puh-leez...I'm not going to be dragged into one of those "discussions."

My observation is that the PP came up short when it mattered. Sure, statistically they are a "top" PP team this year. Big flippin' whoop. Look what it got them.

My observation is that the PP was extremely inconsistent, often times failing to generate even one shot. The plan needs to involve improving consistency and execution.

no it isnt and your right...i think they get a veteran guy to back up and get a guy who knows how to manage what he has...i love the way this team is playing now and they should have been playing this way from the start....guaranteed less injuries...

Call me crazy but Luke shoulda won the Ashbee.
- hereticpride

That is crazy. Schenn wouldn't have be nearly as effective without Kimmo. Luke is a hitter but Kimmo he is not.

Kimmo = team leader, warrior, PP QB, PK specialist, point producer on even strength

Not sure what you watched during this shortened season but it took Luke along time to find "his game" which still has a long way to go.

Just be happy Kimmo re-upped for another year to tutor young Luke.

If somebody needed to have their @ss kicked by Gary Roberts all summer long, it's Tyler Myers. If he were half as strong as he looked with his pads on, he'd have won a Norris trophy by now.

That's the thing tho, I have given him a chance. Look I'm sure he's a great guy in real life, most people are, but when it comes to the business of running a hockey or sports team that can't be a deciding factor. The bryz haters don't give him a fair shake. And again as I said with Briere and carter, Carter caught a lot of flak for not taking this team on his back at times, well how bout briere? Shouldn't he be doing that? I think I'm fair with my criticism of players, what's good for the goose is good for the gander.

Even tho I support Bryzgalov he has to be better and more consistently good. basically when he's dialed in he's awesome, when not.... He needs to figure out how he can maintain that focus.
