There are very few times that one can troll a Philly board. The occasions are too rare. You hardly ever suck and when you do you at least inflict enough damage on those around them that it kinda evens out.

But this year.... what was it? Is it all blamed on the manic-goalie? Because as I see it.... if it is not, then... you guys do actually suck. And I find that heard to believe.

When the team was mostly healthy the coach ran a press forecheck and encouraged the defensemen to pinch. This resulted in a ridiculous amount of turnovers and odd man rushes. Often there would be three Flyer forwards at the goal line, a pinching defensemen caught along the wall, and a 2-on-1 or 3-on-1 going back the other way.

For the first few weeks Bryz bailed the team out and put up good numbers, but after that whether due to lack of rest, lack of confidence, or just lack of skill, he was mediocre. When the injuries really started to bite the coach was forced to abandon that system and the Flyers started playing solid hockey. The team defense actually got better after Grossman, Coburn and Mezaros all suffered season ending injuries.

I dont think the D got better, rather the entire team made a committment to better D and support. If they had played that way from game1 theyd have 10 more points and would be a playoff team

The game was "Meh"
but Dam Oliver...what a cannon.

Since the defense has been cut down by injuries, the team has played a slightlyl more patient game.

Instead of buying a player out, they could simply try to trade Danny...I would not be oppose to trading for Ryan Miller...ship Bryz out.
My fantasy trade.

I think we're in agreement, because that's what I meant when I said "the team defense actually got better".

Yeah, he'll do great here. Emotionally charged guy who whines about everything. Perfect fit for this city

I guess that's one way to look at it...

To me, it looks like the team over-relied on their talent and tried to finesse their way through most of the season, making a lot of ill-advised plays/passes, and generally playing unsound hockey.

It wasn't until a month to go in the season when they finally located their lunch pails, and that was more or less because they had no choice due to injuries.

Like last year, Bryz has been Bryz... steady for stretches, not so good for stretches, occasionally bad. He's been neither the scape goat nor the savior. He has managed to avoid the "lost in the woods" streaks that plagued him last year, though.

You could question some of Lavi's calls this year, but it's more on the players, IMO.

I wouldn't judge Miller too much by how he acts in New York's version of Pittsburgh.

We used to have an emotionally charged guy in the nets in Philadelphia in the late 80's and mid 90's and I remember he was pretty popular here.

Miller has thrown the team under the bus.....what makes you think he doesnt do that here where the pressure is way more than buffalo.

As a huge fan of Briere I feel really sad that he won't be on the team next year. Thanks for the memories Danny. I'll miss your fist pump celebrations.

Huge Danny B fan here.

He's been a key part of the team for years now. And he will have a lasting effect on this franchise through the effect he had on youngsters like Giroux and Couturier. We`ve been lucky to have Briere and we'll miss him dearly the next time we're in the playoffs without him.

That's what I question too... Miller is obviously an excellent goalie, but he doesn't strike me as the best team guy. Also, is just Neil Smith reporting this? To be honest, I haven't heard this rumor at all, or what would be involved going back?

I'd be willing to give up one of those two in a second. WE HAVE TOO MANY CENTERS!!! We need to diversify our prospect pool SO BAD!

One of the poor elements to both Clarke and Holmgren's drafting is that they took way too many centers over the years.

Make that Bryz and a 2nd and I'd do it. Oh wait, you don't think Buffalo would do that? I wonder why not...

The Flyers can win meaningless games. I hope they remember this state of mind and use it when the games count next season. I say that in all seriousness. They play well when they play with no pressure.
