Its what makes this season weird. I do think that if it was a longer season you might have this team sliding into the playoffs. They seemed to get better as the season went along, which was nice to see at least.

Although I do think the right teams made it in the end. Kind of suprised with Montreal.

Yeah, in 2011-12 MIN was leading the entire league after 30-something games, on a 120pt pace, only to completely collapse in the second-half and miss the PO's entirely. Teams like TOR, MTL and ANA are ripe for that kind of regression, except there's no second-half of the season for things to average out. Likewise, PHI probably would be (is) trending in the opposite direction.

Kids been getting a real workout this series, I havent seen the games, but his numbers are amazing! Every recap I've read has said the goals he has given up have basically been unstoppable.

And you know this how?

Schenn is about the same rank to me as JVR.. a good supporting player. Schenn = 2-3 DMAN and JVR = top 3-4 player on a team.

As for trying to say Schenn is a number 1.. No I don't think i have seen anyone honestly say that..A 1 is Weber, Chara, Karlsson, Pieterangleo someone like that.
Not too many of them in the league. Plenty of players like Schenn and just as many like JVR.

I'll take a 25 minute a night top defenseman over a goal scoring Winger. Of course it always depends on what the needs are. But a defenseman is a more important position than a Winger in my opinion. Love the trade.

It's not an excuse, it's just one of the handful of things to take into consideration when we evaluate what happened this year.

Worst possible thing that they could do is get rid of a good coach, or good players, just because of poor showing in a strange, abbreviated season.

It isn't just because of this Season. The Flyers under Laviolette the last 2 Seasons are having trouble beating teams that play a disciplined tight checking physical style. Laviolette's style of play is missing elements that I think are necessary for long term success. It lacks the commitment to team defense, and commitment in all 3 zones. And it lacks the ability to play different styles depending on opponent, or game situation. The best teams can play an aggressive forecheck when necessary. And they can also check all over the ice when necessary. You need more then just an aggressive forecheck in this League.

I believe if all things come together, and with the proper personnel they can win under Laviolette. But I think they'd have a much better chance with a Coach with some different philosophies behind the bench.
