If only they continued the losses. Only two teams in the league manage to win games late in the season to screw them selves over 1st picks. Toronto and Calgary.

Possibly jumping the gun on this seeing as the season isn't over and this was a blog about the draft, but despite the cap going down next year, the Flames will have a ton of room to play with at the end of the season. I was looking at capgeek.com and checking out the potential free agents, including Flames whose contracts expire at the end of the season, and thought I'd have a bit of fun picking who to re-sing, who to sign, and who to offer sheet. I think we're all agreed to go young, so with the exception of bringing back Jarome (hopefully at a nice discount), I kept to UFAs under 30. This is my list, in alphabetical order:

Re-sign:

Aliu (R) RFA
Backlund (C) RFA
Brodie (D) RFA
Cervenka (C) UFA
Cundari (D) RFA

Explore signing:

Bickell (L) UFA
Bozak (C) UFA
Clarkson (R) UFA
Fehr (R) UFA
Iginla (R) UFA
MacArthur (L) UFA
Stalberg (L) UFA

Possible offer sheet?:

Burmistrov (C)
Hartikainen (L)
Henrique (C)
Hodgson (C)
Loktionov (C)
McDonagh (D)
Muzzin (D)
Pietrangelo (D)
Shattenkirk (D)
Tanev (D)
Wellwood, E. (L)
Zuccarello (L)

Obviously not getting (or wanting to get) everyone on the list and it's likely most of the RFAs will be re-signed by their own team, but a potential wish list. Also, I wasn't really looking at specific team needs, other than youth, just BPA. Thoughts?

possible offer sheet
Wheeler<---- baert/backland/wheeler would be great
Bogosian
Tanev
Pietrangelo
Shattenkirk

I'd put Horton on the UFA, we need size

I must have missed Wheeler on the list. Yes, I fully agree. And I skipped Bogosian and Horton only because they've both had concussions. Maybe an issue later, maybe not, but something to consider.

Yeah, knock yourselves out.

Personally, I think there are better things to dream about though.

In all honesty though aren't you guys going have some problems signing all of that talent? I'm not just talking the D men but the forwards as well.

Maybe, but I trust Armstrong. He has found a way to sign several of our guys to contracts that I have been happy with, and I think he is going to find a way to do the same this season. (even if it means trading a forward) I don't think they are going to let Shattenkirk or Petro go.

I don't know why people keep thinking they are gonna be able to land any of those two via offer sheet , the blues will match any offer that is realistic and just trade another d man .... If anything I couple see j bo being traded if they need the space

actually not that impossible, stlouis could have a hard time matching.

they have 25mil to sign shattenkirk, pieterangelo, stewart, berglund and fill the roster (which would be at 20 if they sign all 4)

5.5mil, 5.5mil, 4 mil, 4.5mil as a low guesstimate for those four right? someone could offer a bit more to them and get them.

Berglund would be a nice addition too

But they won't be as bad as PHI is going to be in terms of cap over the next couple years.

Personally, I think that those numbers are high. Maybe that my expectations are not realistic, but if you look at what Armstrong has signed other Blues RFA's to, along with the fact that the new CBA brought the cap down, I don't see the Blues players getting quite that much. Maybe if they agree to longer term deals, but that is also not the way the Blues have handled contracts. (usually 4 years is the max)

Petro might get that much, but his year has not been as great as we were expecting, and Shattenkirk has tailed off as the season has gone on with his offensive production.

I think they will end up trading Stewart. They'll find a way to sign everyone else.

I've read speculations that ST Lou may look at moving Berglund or more likely Perron. I would take both, please.

I don't think they are going to end up trading Stewart, but you may be right.

I think they love his size too much to trade him. Personally, I would rather trade Perron. But if Stewart could bring in a legit center, then I would do it. But I don't really want to trade a big power forward. He is the type of player that you just don't want to let go of.

Still don't believe that we got him and Shattenkirk for Johnson.

I would be completely fine with Perron getting moved.

That said, I don't see anything else on your roster that the Blues would be interested in getting for Perron.

berglund would be great. I'd give up a late 1st for his rights. Him or wheeler on a first line would fill some needs

And lets not forget clutterbuck as an RFA.

Glenx/Clutterbuck on a line. that would be fun to play against.
