I would almost say that 1 month into their rebuild the Flames are in better shape than the Oilers. Potential is only potential until it's realized. I agree there are some great young players in Edmonton but the problem there is Kevin Lowe. He is a moron. What you do on the ice has nothing to do with how yo run a team. He can wave the I won 6 cups all he wants, he sucks in management. MacT will do some good, but Lowe is a tit and he is a guy that needs to go as well. I would also like to add that Reinhart (who plays with passion) and Baertschi have loads of upside. I will give you the Jankowski fella for sure. But Reinhart and Sven have this team playing not bad. TJ Brodie also looks like the real deal. I will throw this back at you. After the Oilers beat Colorado 6-4 on HNIC you said the Oil would win the cup. How's that workin out for ya?

How you getting McDonagh? (for slow people like myself) - walshyleafsfan
Dude, I picked NYR and St Louis players because they both have too many players to sign and are up against the cap. Something has to give. So in theory they would be looking for cheaper alternatives, picks or prospects back (cant take back salary).
Not saying it would happen but teams with cap space and picks could benefit from teams needing to get below the cap this summer. |

I disagree about MPS. I think he's a solid 3rd line LW. The Oil should keep Gags at 2C and bring in a big body 2LW.
If they win the lotto, draft Jones, if not draft Nurse. Top 4 solved in a couple years.
What I'd like to see next year:
Hall/Nuge/Ebs
Stewart/Gags/Yak
MPS/Horc/Eric Fehr
Petrell/Lander/Brown
Smyth
J Schultz/McDonagh
Petry/Shattenkirk
Klefbom/N Schultz
Potter
Duby
Backup - Iggysbff
mcdonagh and shattenkirk
2 great players, but u dont think we're a little soft on that proposed backend?
also, i just dont see them signing smid long term and then dealing him before he plays 1 game under the new contract. i realize its a business and we need to stop kissing the azz of every player that wants to stay. but its a total slap in the face, and i just dont see it happening. plus, we can use his truculence.. |

And yet with all of this "UNTOUCHABLE" talent. All the top draft picks. A completely shiatty Calgary Flames team full of nobodies gets more points than the Oilers. Hell the Columbus Beej's might actually make the playoffs. With another bunch of nobody talent. I'm starting to think Edmonton's Scouting and your belief in that is the problem. Out of all the talent drafted, the only one who is a surefire winner is Hall. The rest? Not so much. |

Maybe close but doable. Hemsky 5 mill gone. Whitney 4 mill gone.
Bonuses don't count against the cap. |

I haven't followed the new bullpoop the PA enforced but the bonuses always counted on the cap as a static number, but if your contention is that other teams won't be able to sign their RFA's to deals to keep under the cap for fear of crossing it or crossing their owners level of pay allowance, you would assume they want the big bucks, say 4.5 mil each, Stewart, McDonough and Shat at least will want that. So unless you are proposing some major pick movements or that you value Hemsky to that degree that somebody would do a Hemsky + random prospect/pick for RFA to save 500k I don't see the idea working or being slightly plausible. |

Not talking Hemsky. No one will want him for 5 mill. Buy him out.

You know what the problem is Richard, you keep putting 100% of your faith in unproven players. Taylor Hall and Nail Yakupov are the two forward talents Edmonton should keep and consider untouchable. RNH is talented but he's proven little at the NHL level. That said, he's obviously a talented kid.
You keep finishing near the bottom of the league because you think the kids are better than they really are, your faith is blind and the Oilers are fast becoming the joke of the league much like the Leafs have been for the past 10 years. |
