PPG in a season were he plays less than 40 games. I know I hate on Vanek a lot, but he's frustrating to watch when he goes from all world player to Houdini every year. The guy has top 10 NHL talent but leaves a lot on the table - sbroads24
And now that we're starting to see these back issues re-occur its just gonna get worse...
He HAS to be traded!
Can we at least honour the fact that he earned his 250th career goal tonight before we rip him to shreds - Sabresfan-365
Who's ripping him?
He's really good... But it still makes sense to trade him!
1- Miller is gone, Vanek won't wanna stay
2- even if he did wanna be here.... Why would I sign a guy who gets banged up every year w/ back issues to a HUGE $$$ deal till he's 38 years old?
3- we can get a TON back for him
In the last 6 years our highest paid forward has been in the top 50 in the league in scoring only 2x. Never in the top 10. If we are going to be a contender we need someone who can be a real difference maker.

It's just not a good idea to keep him around - jdfitz77
Cool just cover one end of the equation. People around here assume that the Sabres as an organization are in full rebuild mode but everything that I have seen since the trade deadline doesn't point in that direction.
I actually would have been down for a tank THIS season but we are obviously beyond that. (Although we still have a lottery pick, we could end up picking better than we finish)
I think the Sabres see this as a re-tool situation. They need a veteran player to mentor the younger people. Its not like we are anywhere close to being pressed against the cap, we can afford to re-sign Vanek. He explicitly said that he would like to stay in Buffalo if we were headed toward a re-tool, but not if we were talking about a long-term rebuild.
In all seriousness people here are too cynical. Sure, propose long term misery in the HOPES that the sabres turn out like the Penguins and NOT the Oilers (yes I know their story isn't over yet.. but its long overdue if they are ever becoming great again). Either direction is a gamble, you have to mitigate risk. We need a mixture of proven talent and up and coming players, what is so idiotic about that?

I won't disagree with that. We need a top 15-10 scoring guy.

Trade Miller, not because he sucks, no because he is good and the Sabres need more help than just retaining him. Let the 3 Kids fight to become the No. 1 in net. Resign Vanek for mentoring and for some scoring ability, he outperforms everyone else on the team by a long mile. Cut Stafford as it would be Addition by Subtraction. Can't stand watching him go wide on boards to cut late to the net then shoot into goaltender who deflects in into corner for his D-man to pick up, meanwhile Stafford circles behind the net for a quick exit to the bench...go play your guitar loser-boy. Trade your 2 No 1s this year for 1-3 and go get Mckinon (sp?) Or Drouin!

Dear Mr. Pegula,
Keep Miller -- top goalie
Keep Vanek -- top scorer
Add Rick Dudley and Patrick Roy, GM and coach
Fire Darcy Regier ASAP

I don't have any issues with keeping Vanek if we can get a good price that's worth paying, otherwise I'd ship him out. Miller just can't stay, I like him a lot but he just can't stay here anymore.

Vaneks the only real hint of a superstar that we have on this team.Dont much like him but if we lose him theres no one to replace him on this roster.Agree on Miller and im all for taking a chance on some new blood in goal.We couldnt win enough with Miller why keep him.
