And still the last pick, amongst his peers, at the all-star game. Kessel isn't going to be a factor in the playoffs, at all.
- Seabass2012

Where was picked at the All-Star Game the following year? And also, the fact that he was actually at the All-Star Game twice...and I still think his position among top NHL scorers over the last several years kind of trumps the All-Star Game from two years ago.

I think they will never make the playoffs and will have to rebuild again.

UG would be turning in his shallow grave.. but it is true...

Tank Nation breeds losers.. unless you are going out of business like the Pens were and Gary floats you some of the best picks ever.

He got softies because all the other FRANKS signed on to different teams.
I'm sure if Ott/Gaustad were available for less than a 1st rounder..he would have grabbed 1 or both!!!! IMHO.

You do realize we would've given up Reilly for Gaustad.. who is near the end.. as a 3rd liner...

Giving up on the future is what got us so many early vacations.

Burke made the Leafs soft.. his whole tenure made us the softest ever... Nonis takes over and truculence starts.. Carlyle has much to do with the credit.. but Carlyle also coached the softest Leafs ever last season.. with the Cons, Lombard's, and MacAsses..

This is a new team.. and Nonis has put his stamp on it.. by taking away the big softies Burke brought in.. in all due respect as a friend.. Nonis didn't make too many changes.. just enough.. and took the privilege of the contracts out..

Hey Gardiner, Liles, Mac Ass all sat out..

The team has developed a new motto.. play or sit.. that was never there during Burke's years.. the softest Leafs ever.. I couldn't even watch.

Now they are accountable...

Seabass is a big curling fan and he spends his off days at the rink watching the local curlers wishing and hoping and wishing and hoping they ask him to play just once but no they don't...but he continues to wish and hope and today he's spreads his goodwill among the many leaf fans. Nope it doesn't. The judgement and shame he faced that day lasts forever on his fragile pysche. God I hope the leafs play the B's in the 1st round.

Who Deserves The Most Credit?

The owners for locking out the players, thus making the season short enough that the Leafs didn't have enough time to nose dive.

Seriously though, welcome back. The playoffs haven't been the same without ya! Would love to see Toronto/Montreal in the first round, or Boston/Toronto. Old-time hockey!

if he would have given up Gardiner..why didn't he? I believe he said he WILL NOT TRADE Gardiner...I think he brought in some good players but Wilson wouldn't play them ie. Orr maybe I'm wrong...he's not going to say he wants to be tough and then go out and sign a whole bunch of MacArthurs unless that's all the was available and he also said he's not trading away the future for some players. IMHO...not trying to fight with you...but that's how I see it!!!!

Well, considering he has been a PPG player since that day I certainly hope the effect on his psyche continues, because it's been all good!

It is about time, the Leafs have been back in the Eastern Conference for a long time now and have yet to renew Original Six playoff battles with the Bruins and Habs! Habs vs. Leafs is the all-time classic hockey matchup, and after all the business between the Bruins and Leafs it would be a great, heated series between those two as well, I look forward to it!

You know the old saying my friend.. the proof is in the pudding...

Wilson was brought in to entice Burke.. since they were best buds.. and it worked he came..

How many winning seasons under Burke...?

Nonis & Carlyle have taken the same players and turned them into a playoff team.. if that is not greatness I don't know what is.

Do you actually think that if Burke was still here the results would be the same...?

He has too many morals.. Lombard.. Connolly.. etc would still be here.. Kadri woulld still be trying to crack the team because Dallas knows no D.. it was Carlyle that taught Kadri to mind his own zone... and it elevated him massively...

Seeing that they were not that far off this past year, i would argue they could very well make it next year if they shore up the D a little bit and Nuge and Ebs play like they did last season.

If the Leafs can win out, the rest of the year, we're looking at a first round against the Habs. The Sens get the Penguins, Islanders vs Capitals and Rangers vs Bruins. If this happens it'll be:

Pens over Sens
Rangers over Bruins
Leafs over Habs
Caps over Islanders.

2nd round:

Pens vs Rangers
Leafs vs Caps.

We could get lucky and find ourselves in the Eastern Final. Here's hoping for this scenereo.

We disagree..but that's ok. Yes I think with Burke still here this year with Carlyle we would be in the same position...I don't think the leafs are very strong still and if 82 games were to be played...we would be trying to sneak in again.
I'm glad we are in..and I like Nonis and Carlyle so we will see what happens..if they play in the playoffs like they have the last 2 weeks against the Bruins/Pens we will not win a game and barely score a goal...I hope they are working on learning how to gain the red line and dump the (frank)ing puck in..unbelievable how weak they have been at this the last couple weeks...almost unwatchable. Even last game made me laugh with Franson finally skating the puck to the red line and then he passes it right to their D on their blue line and the other team dumps it deep and start the cycle ( I know he fanned on the pass but it made me chuckle to myself )
