Have to disagree.
Nash, Carolina, Edm, Phi are just lifeless right now.
As much as I hate that they will miss a top pick again, at least its because they didn't give up.
Hopefully the new kids can carry it through into a new season and through a few years of retooling, there isn't going to anyone saving the franchise at draft this year it looks like. - numbear
This is called the Gagner/Cogs/Nilsson era for the Oilers. |

I'd say Brodie over wideman .... The kid has truley had a breakout year , every game he seems to be getting better and more confident - Redmile247
Brodie has definitely been a bright light for sure....I don't think he is as good as Wideman yet though. |

I don't think that we as Flames fans are in any position to look down at the Oilers, or any other team for that matter. - LenW3
Thank you....that's all I'm sayin.
Flames have been poop for just as long. Do we really need to argue degrees of pooptyness? Lets just agree that both team need to improve. |

Pretty sure we can look down our nose at the Oilers. For all their talk and high draft picks they have barely improved and have shown no passion or heart during the entire rebuild.
The Flames lacked heart all year until they brought the kids up, and these kids, unlike the Oilers kids, are playing like they actually care about winning vs the annual tank job the Oilers kids pull every year. - Lanny9
Dude,
The ONLY players on the Oil playing with heart are the kids. That's their problem. |

Of course, but like makeup on a hot chick from 30 feet away, don't be surprised when you wake up next to her looking like a 4. |

I totally agree that there should have been no way Oilers were a bottom 5 lottery team this year. Lockout year where all their #1's were playing, they should have hit the ice & ran so fast that like Montreal, they should have pretty well clinched a playoff spot. I dont know if MacT is the guy, but they almost need to shuffle the rebuild.
As for us, I am not happy about a meaningless win streak right now. It means if we want to retool, Feaster is going to have to spin a different approach here. As pleased as I am about us doing well now, dont be fooled, these kids are playing on adrenalin & nothing to lose. Next year can be so different. How this translates to next years 82 games remains to be seen. 3 players I think will be stepping up to lead this team are going to be Sven, Brodie & Backlund & hopefully Reinhart wont be far behind. All we can hope for is good unexpected surprises next year but I am bracing for a real tough year, too bad we couldnt have added a bluechip almost sure thing future franchise player after the pain we endured this year. Oh well, it is what it is & hopefully Feaster makes good decisions coming up with our draft picks & cap space & maybe win a trade. |

You know, I think Feaster needs to acquire another top 10 pick so if we have like 7th & 9th picks we have the ability to snag a couple of players that slip down each year. Trying to acquire that top 5 pick is too difficult & expensive. That might make up for this stupid winning streak |

One thing is that I think it goes to show you the cupboards aren't as bare as they appear. Guys like Horak, Baertschi, Reinhart, Brodie, Backlund are capable of being good NHL players. We have a few others that haven't gotten a chance yet either (Seiloff, Granlund, Wotherspoon, Brossoit).
Anyways, i'm not gonna be mad they are winning. It's what the game is all about, good for them, shred it. I know I would do the same thing in their position. Winning is contagious (so is losing). Not to mention they can always use the Stl & Pitt picks to move up and grab a gem if they want or heaven forbid they hit the jackpot and win the Lottery! Can't wait for the draft, free agency, and next year! |

If he packages the Blues and the Pens picks someone might go for it if the draft is as deep as everyone says it is. |

Still don't think that gets us into the top 5. Maybe 10-12. |

Or we can keep em all and get 3 good players
Looking like St. Louis will play Vancouver or LA and the Penguins maybe NYR....here`s hoping for some upsets!!! (or an iggy cup) |

Depth is key......but we do need a player to build around. Depends what is out there I guess. |

Agreed! I don't know how Feaster will do it but I think he enters this year's draft with 4 1st's. |

I agree. Cammi or Tanguay i think gets moved at the draft. It won't be a high pick but another 1st rnd'r in this draft is solid.
The more research i do on these prospects the more I think they should hang on to all their 1sts unless there is a great deal to be had. I also still think they can pull a deal using their large amount of cap space to move up without giving up a 1st.
Heard LAK may be looking for another top 6 forward for next year. Wouldn't it be interesting if the aquire Tanguay and then sign Jarome. I realize they would have to make other moves but still possible. What would the Flames have to add to Tanguay, if anything, to get Bernier? Mid prospect and a 3rd? Salary dump? |

Tanguay or Cammy will not pull a first at the draft....not even if the Flames eat a ton of salary. Not in my opinion anyway. |

I think Bernier would be great. Suspect it would take more than that to get him. I'm pumped about Brosseit (sp) in a couple years. |

Yeah I would think so...I think Gio should stay, they need him. Glen X can go IMO, but we know he probably isn`t going anywhere. |

both are needed.
GlenX could easier play on any of the top 3 lines, and play more of a grinder roll if needed. Thats what the flames are now sorely lacking, size and grit.
losing Glenx, we're going to look like edmonton with no veteran role players. |
