They don't have any young kid in this system that has the potential to dominate a game except maybe Grigorenko, but I have a feeling Galchenyuk-Yakupov-Grigorenko is like the 2004 NFL Draft: Manning-Rivers-Losman, and Grigorenko is Losman. Until they get someone that at least has the potential to dominate the game, a Steve Ott does very little for you.

Ugh...I hate that I am sounding like I'm defending Derek Roy. Trading Roy was a great move. Not getting someone to replace him, however was the problem.

This team still would have been bad with Roy instead of Ott. And I daresay it would have been even less entertaining than it is with Ott. Not that it's been very entertaining to begin with, but Ott at least keeps things interesting quite often.
