He is a piece the team has lacked . He wasn't sposed to be Roys replacement. He was an asset the team didn't have . I would rather have Ott helping with all these young kids than Roy teaching them the hockey way.

I'd rather have a bonafide top 6 forward worth building around than either of those two.

sure, when the skill os Crosby and the grit is Kaleta

not when its Roy type skill vs. Ott type grit.

Ott has skill too.

- Homer

Down by own in the playoffs much rather have Roy taking the offensive faceoff then Ott

Nobody's saying you don't need grit. What we're saying is, if you don't have the skill first, grit does nothing for you.
- buffalofan19

I agree. Otts grit and work ethic are not a dime a dozen. Glad we have him going forward with the skill coming up.

NJ was never loaded with skill, they played great D and had a great goalie....Pii has plenty of grit, all those teams did.
- Homer

your silly, NJ was stacked, Pit was stacked talking about Lemieux, Jagr, Neidermayer, Gionta, ect ect come on not talking about Crysby.

The answer to the question "Roy or Ott" is that you are a bad team going nowhere. Only the reasons are different.

Roy has always been a better player. Hence why Dallas added a player to the trade to obtain Roy who only had one year left on his deal.

They don't have any young kid in this system that has the potential to dominate a game except maybe Grigorenko, but I have a feeling Galchenyuk-Yakupov-Grigorenko is like the 2004 NFL Draft: Manning-Rivers-Losman, and Grigorenko is Losman. Until they get someone that at least has the potential to dominate the game, a Steve Ott does very little for you.

Gionta is not, and never was elite. However, Brodeur, Niedermayer, and Stevens all were one of the best if not the best at what they did. The Devils won with talent, just at different positions than at forward.

Ugh...I hate that I am sounding like I'm defending Derek Roy. Trading Roy was a great move. Not getting someone to replace him, however was the problem.
