Then stop contradicting yourself.

"This team lacks talent" So is Ott more talented than Roy? "Not offensively, but theres more than just points"

Steve Ott and Roy are two different types of hockey players. I think Ott is better hockey player for his role than Roy was for his role, but Roy is easily more talented and wouldve made this team better than they are this year, rather than Ott.

Ott is perfect for a team like Chicago, Anaheim, Vancouver, where they have top 6 talent but need a 3rd line player like Ott. He was not the right fit for Buffalo.

- theblueandgold

How is that a contradicition?

Steve Ott brings more to the table and way more to the room than Roy does. In no way do I believe this team would be better with Roy instead of Ott.

You dont have to agree with me but no need for the opening statement.

Steve Ott is a better hockey player than Derek Roy, IMO. You dotn have to agree with me but you dont have to get pissy either.

- Homer

Derek Roy is a far better hockey player. Yes I am going by stats only. Let´s face it Roy has/had some serious skill but is not as good when he played before that big injury.

Roy had to go, his fish tank was full.

Devil's advocate (and I say this because I do believe he does serve a purpose): for all that Steve Ott supposedly brings to a team, his team hasn't made the playoffs in 5 years. And he's supposed to be in his prime. For all that he brings, the tangible results aren't there. This is why I keep saying what frustrates me about the mindset of fans in this town. We gravitate towards the blue-collar players, and the championships they never bring. I truly don't get it.

You can't go by stats only when determining how good a hockey player one guy is vs another though.

you hit it dead on. Ott Brings more "tangibles" but sorry skill wins, goals win games.
Roy .80 ppg player
Ott .40 ppg player

2nd line center vs 3rd line grinder.

This team lacks several things, star power for sure, which you so badly want to bring the Championship you talk about. But this team also lacks heart and character. Ott brings that. You get rid of a cancer to bring in an assest we need.

Until you can figure out to to get the star power it takes to win the Cup then how can you, or anyone, criticize bringing in the other qualities we lack?

Well that is an easy arguement for you to make when Derek Roy doubled Ott´s production the last 5 or 6 years.

Hey guys stats don´t count

How about we are one of the most penalized teams in the league becuase of Steve Ott. We have a terrible PK so Ott is directly effecting that situation.

Roy was a much better PP player then Ott so Ott hits and sticks gis tongue on visors.

The saying "nice guys finish last" is more than just a saying. It's true.

That's the problem with the sports mentality this city. We'd rather have nice guys that "work hard" rather than championships. And it's exactly why we have none.

- buffalofan19

Yeah and in his case Id rather watch a post game and not listen to his inflated ego throw his teamates and coaches under the bus even after wins. In his mind he made was always perfect never did no wrong. As for those questioning my age I was watching hockey long before Hasek was here.

Because without the star power, everything else you "need" is meaningless. It's like buying a top of the line car stereo system for 1989 Ford Tempo. The stereo system isn't going to work at all unless you have a vehicle worth putting it in. All their efforts should be concentrated on figuring out a way to get the top level talent. Whether it's trading everything away and "tanking" for a top 3 pick, or making a bold trade involving someone like Tyler Myers (before his disaster of a season this year). Get someone that makes your team visibly better, much better, than you are now. Steve Ott doesn't do that, no matter how hard he works, no matter how much he endears the fans.

Nobody's saying you don't need grit. What we're saying is, if you don't have the skill first, grit does nothing for you.

This franchise tried building a team from the goalie out .. Hasek,,,Miller. Lets try a different approach . With a no name goalie in net , would we be any worse ? maybe 28th ?
- cabin

I am not disagreeing with you but Miller should not first in line for our frustrations

He is a piece the team has lacked . He wasn't sposed to be Roys replacement. He was an asset the team didn't have . I would rather have Ott helping with all these young kids than Roy teaching them the hockey way.

You can take any team that isn't talented or that just flat out under achieves and say they lack heart or drive or desire. I'm not so sure that what Ott has brought has changed much. He has been here all year and at times have looked 10x as bad as last year with Roy

NJ was never loaded with skill, they played great D and had a great goalie....Pii has plenty of grit, all those teams did.
