Exactly. This was a statement game. I am sure the hawks went into it thinking the same thing. In a rivalry like this, even a meaningless game 45 of 48 means something. I am sure the hawks wanted to win it. I bet they are now saying they didn't try and it means nothing - tomcat24

Respect back...we laid down tonight...don't give a phuck who we play...but it's no way to rep the Indian. NO WAY. Game was one game and i understand that. We usually bounce back forcefully after these no shows...but these no shows...should NEVER HAPPEN. - philco28
I agree...and in theory that's very true, but in practice it almost never is. My memory of past seasons is always fuzzy, but one season that stands out for me..
1977-78 Montreal Canadiens
I've always loathed the Habs, and still wish them nothing but misery (standings wise) so watching that club march all the way to the cup was good for one long face palm. But ya had to respect them...
...an amazing team from top to bottom...but a rare team.
edit...I just checked my history and the Habs from the prior 2 years also rolled...but I was 15 in '77 so that club really stood out in my memory. |

No, they got hammered with him in the lineup. He did nothing. Take him out and nothing changes.
And you don't need an "NHL heavy". You need people willing to hit. Anyone can hit. - AceRatbang
Not so fast ace....anyone can hit in theory .....but most guys on this team don't have a hitting mentality ...... plus the ones that do are coached not to.......finishing checks should be a given but its not on this team......Vancouver finished checks.....and that's different than taking runs with intent .....sorry about the schizophrenic periods .....but I'm a little pissed |

With all due respect, I don't think tonights game matters at all...regarding what may follow in the post season. If that were true I'd be resigned to defeat if the Hawks play the Ducks...
...and I'm not.
Post season is a new season. - ArlingtonRob
Thanks for the perspective Rob. This board sorely lacks it every time the Hawks don't blow someone away. They'll all say the young guys belong in the minors and a team without 22 Lucic's and Buffs is never going to win the Cup.
If the Hawks had scored the first goal, and they usually do, Vancouver would have never pulled out the shenanigans.
Don't forget two years ago a team half this good was one Sharp deflection / Campoli turnover away from pantsing a better version of these crybaby wannabe thugs, sending them to their, uh, presidents Cup parade.

You are correct, Vancouver initiated and finished their checks which is their game plan against the Hawks. Hit them early and often and take away as much of the speed game as possible and make them cough up the puck. (See Sheldon Brookbank and Johnny Oduya) It's an effective plan and the Canucks played a very sound defensive game as well, without Bieksa in the lineup. And they can do it because there is no Byfuglien or Ladd or Brouwer in the lineup to hit back. That's part of the reason Q and his coaches were trying to fit Jimmy Hayes in somehere.
Now if VAncouver takes tonight's game plan in against the LA Kings, they get phyically abused themselves because the Kings have so many big forwards who love to initiate contact and roll around in the mud. They start pounding on guys like Burrows, the Sedins and Kesler and the Canucks don't handle that any better than the Hawks did tonight.
Moral of my story - better have some players who are willing to initiate and engage physically and who can play the game at high level. Tonight there weren't many that were interested (and they still only lost 3-1).

I agree.....what worries me is a 7 game series against a team like Vancouver or st.Louis ..... at some point the team has to say NO MORE ... and hit back.... no one answered the bell tonight and not from a fighting stand point ..... they all just bent over and took it.....this was not the most important game of the year but it doesn't make me feel great about teams that play that way against us

Haha come on man, that was kinda funny. She was insinuating he cheap-shotted Sedin (slashing on a breakaway is not a cheap shot, tons of guys do it) and he called her out for being snarky. |

Well I don't particularly want to go there...the Hawks were beaten by the better team tonight.
I just don't think the results of this one game, when the standing are basically set, reflects what may, or may not happen in the post season. |

Does he make the same comments if a male reporter makes the same comment?
Nope.
Don't really expect any rationale thought here on this one. Probably shouldn't have mentioned anything.

Meh, apparently he's always a bit of an ass with reporters, just like Kesler. The Tweets about it are hilarious though. The Canucks-Hawks is the rivalry that just keeps on giving. |

I'm quite glad we saw this game today. To me its a great indicator of the sort of competition the HAwks are likely to see, and being a team best suited for the regular season, they needed to feel its intensity. Its a good reminder of what they can expect. |

Haha I appreciate your honesty... I don't like every Canucks player as well. I don't think the comment was terribly offensive.. it was just needless. Girl or not.. he just doesn't need to be a jerk about it. It was a legitimate question that a lot of people were thinking. |

Do you say that if he doesn't retaliate against Sedin last year? I know Duncan pretty well, and he's a damn good guy. |

Its not just that... I was walking down the street with my Grandmother and her dog... and he ran up to us and pushed my grandmother and kicked her dog because she was wearing a Canucks jersey.
Luckily he runs about as fast he skates so I chased him down pretty easily but before I could do anything he put on his blackhawks jersey and became invisible.. which explains a lot from what I've seen of him these past couple years. |

Just got finshed watching the game on DVR. I have to say, the biggest vagina in the whole league is Joel Quenneville. His consistent preaching of the "Active Stick" instead of taking the body is going to cause another early exit for this team.

You need to look a little harder. I do agree that was a pretty good joke, but there's not a D-man on your team that you wouldn't trade for him. |
