Go deeper into those stats.....5 on 5 hockey the Blues are in the bottom half of the league...Nucks, Hawks, Ducks, and Kings are all in the top ten.
- UnnamedSource

But their shot differentials 5v5 are very good indicators that they are outplaying opponents 5v5. Their 5v5 goaltending has been bad and frankly a little unlucky, you can expect it to improve in the playoffs, like the Kings scoring last year. The Ducks actually get outshot 5v5 on average, so they're the team who's been lucky

You're underrating the Blues. They have scored basically the same amount of goals as Van and would beat ANA in a series. Anyway I was using the game the Hawks played as an example. Short, quick, tape to tape passes out of the zone. We gave away too many pucks early, which let Van build off the crowd and play with even more energy
- rollpards19

The only way the Blues beat anybody is winning 1-0 or 2-1. They'd handle San Jose. Won't beat LA or Vancouver. Maybe Anaheim if Getzlaf decides not the break Backes' face which he is most certainly capable of doing.

He's been working with Huet, Theodore and some other crud tenders. Ducks should win a round or two this year.

Someone please explain this to me. When Q had the Blues and later the Avs, those teams hit. They got after ya. What the hell is this schit we have now? I mean this game = getting your lunch money taken and your boxers yanked 6 feet up your a$$. But its more then that.. for the last 3 years... no push back. No physical response... Nothing. Yeah we showed some life the last 5 mins, but my god. Going philco here...

- z1990z

Exactly. I can't explain what it is, either. Q sure liked physical hockey with the Blues especially. So you think it might be the roster. While the core is soft as hell, guys like carcillo and others were physical as hell on other teams but not at all here. I still think it is the players on the ice more than coaching. You figure you would get tired of being hit. We aren't saying to fight. It takes really guts to fight, but anyone can AND should hit back in a game like this

Well part of it is that you can't just "turn it on" come playoff time. The Hawks might play a team like Columbus that's been playing playoff games for two weeks now and getting better with each game. ( Of course, they may play a free falling Minnesota team too.) You have to stay sharp. I think Rockford gang will be here in due time.

But this game is so unimportant that it really doesn't matter. There isn't any litmus test. They're currently +40 over this team in goal differential and over 16 points better in the standings. They're a better team than the Canucks. Just play the game, iron out the kinks, stay sharp and don't get hurt.

- yahoodi

The point difference in the standings don't mean anything. The Canucks spanked the hawks tonite.hawks were dominated in all facets of the game.hard to believe the hawks couldn't get up for the game.maybe they were out partying last night.

Apparently as one poster theorized Q tells them to play soft....

Why is it hard to believe? They didn't get up for the two before this either, they're in a bit of a rut and the #2 center got injured early and they played terrible. Kudos to the Canucks, but this is not what the playoff team for Chicago will look like

Stanbo said after the '11 playoff loss he would build a team that was 'tougher to play against'. The 'streak' and the record are great...but two years later...we're easier to play against (physically) than any Hawks team in my memory.

When you hit the opponent less than 20 times in 60 minutes and many of the hits were half-hearted...you deserve to be embarrassed and we were.

Ducks looked like crap for awhile....
- UnnamedSource

They really did. Confidence is a funny thing. Even though beating the oilers is no big deal, it might turn anaheim around a little. The hawks need to come out flying wednesday. Oilers are feeling like crap. No confidence. Hawks have to kick them when they are down. I can almost guarantee they play like crap and lose in a rout

I really want to see another playoff series between these two teams. Regardless of winning or losing I know we'd all see some great hockey

The game means virtually nothing...

How would you guys like to be Hab fans lately?

1-4 in last 5 games with 25 GA...Yowza!! ...now that kinda finish does NOT yield optimism.

If you watched the same game as me, Q played the hell out of Kane and Kruger and a few others in the first 2 periods. What physicality is he going to get out of those type of players? In the 3rd period he uses Carcillo and Bollig and Shaw and there was some physical push back.

And a player like Brookbank was signed to play with some nastiness and use the body. He does none of that. Guy is totally ineffective.

You inspired me to do some digging. In a full season, no way the Ducks hang on to the 2 seed. i'm going to reiterate, Oduya scares the poopeee out of me

It was very hard to watch. I never buy that puck possession team, either. Obviously when you have the puck more the other team will hit more, but the hawks chip and chase a lot more than people think. That is when the forwards have to go in flying and soften up the D. Our d get killed every game.

Perhaps locking up first in the West has something to do with it...Perhaps?

Me, too. Teams know it, too and really go after him. Obviously more you hit the.D the more they will panic and cough it up. But, he does it also when there is no pressure around. He just makes dumb plays. Playing with brookbank doesn't help. Anyone.

I do and you're right Rob...it's been a great year so far. But if we play like that when it matters...we're PHUCKED.

Agreed.

Hawks locked it up a while ago.

This is why my only concern for the last 7 games is injury. That's it.

When the tournament starts everyone is refreshed and ready to go..... I hope

Rosi will be back, but I totally think you're right. The good teams hit him more than any other D and it only makes him worse. Wish we Reghr at the deadline, but hopefully we get some early leads and play how we have all year

It's not troubling. It's common with this team, you gotta know that by now
