Drouin with a shorthanded breakaway goal.

Yeah, but assisted by MacKinnon. So obviously, all MacKinnon's doing.

No need for foresight since half the boards during the draft said the same exact thing! I believe I read a lot of...

"Why did they not take Dougie Hamilton!" among other things.

And obviously yes the scouts and team personnel is way better than me, I mean they are getting paid to build championship caliber Flyer teams.

And most of the board was thrilled when we have Couturier last year, shutting down Malkin in the playoffs. There was a split between people wanting Couturier (a projected first overall) and Hamilton. They've both played less than 130 games, let's give it some time before you tell us what a blunder that one was.

This off season, the flyers need to aquire a sniper for their top line left wing, along with a stronger blue line. Last night, Voracek and Giroux supplied Gagne with ATLEAST 5 amazing opportunities, all of which Gagne failed to even hit the net on. I was imagining if we had that one more player to put the puck away with a strong shot, just how many goals our first line would have scored last night. Whether this player is already on the Flyers, or needs to be aquired from another team, is beyond me. Dupuis and Ryder are both UFAs this offseason, and could probably be converted to the left wing, if the opportunity arose. As for the blue line, Mark Streit is available this offseason, and he could be a good offensive force on our blue line, despite his age, and we could potentially get him without having to give up another player. Many people have been talking about what players the Flyers should give to get another D man, well I think this is a good option with little cost (besides for his salary).

I like Tristan Jarry from what I've been told about him but if they choose not to go with him perhaps Oliver Bjorkstrand (Portland)
- ob18

I like what I've seen from Bjorkstrand and I wouldn't be against drafting him at all.

With the Flyers limited Cap space, that's going to be very difficult. Hartnell scored 37 goals playing with Giroux in 11/12. It's one game. I think the Flyers have bigger needs. If Streit would sign a one year deal, which I doubt. I'd be interested.

The likely reason they did not take Dougie Hamilton was because nobody expected Sean Couturier to fail outside the top 5 let alone to 8th.

When Winnipeg choose to select Mark Scheifele it changed the Flyers selection. Although it would have filled a need he wasn't the best on the board.

For much of the year Sean Couturier was ranked as the #1 player in many if not all rankings. What knocked him down was he had mono and for whatever reasons it scared teams away.

I do like Tristan Jarry and would like to add another goalie to the system but they can also look at Charlie Graham (Belleville) or Spencer Martin (Mississauga) in the 4th of 5th round. And for the Flyers they don't have a 4th so it'd have to be the 5th round.

So if Bjorkstrand is the better on the board I go with him.

you really think teams saw he had mono and passed on him because of that?

i tend to doubt that

It's been reported as such. He entered the year ranked #1 by many experts but fell down (reportedly) because of illness.

im aware
i just think other concerns about his skating and offensive potential were the real reasons he dropped to 8. Not saying mono didnt play a part in that but i cant see a team passing on someone they view as having a top overall pick skillset because he got sick.

Assuming we don't win the lottery and do not get a chance to draft Jones, MacKinnon, Drouin, or Nichushkin, who do we target? If we're somewhere between 6th-12th... several of Nurse, Barkov, Zadorov, Lindholm, Monahan, and Ristolainen are going to be available.

I guess it depends on which of the above kids get picked right before us. If a guy like Monahan falls a la Couturier, he'd be a steal anywhere outside of the top 5 IMO. Nurse, Zadorov, and Ristolainen are huge d-men, Barkov is a giant of a kid at forward.

Finish strong boys, but hoping we wind up with the 6th-8th pick this draft.

If Seth Jones or Drouin fell into your lap at #3 or #4 at the draft, would you pass on either if either had contracted mono this past year?

Question....how many spots can the flyers go down (or up) from this years lottery?

What do you think is the upside for Graham and Martin? I honestly haven't read enough about them. I would just like to see a little more depth at goalie in the organization. And I agree that if Bjorkstrand is the better on the flyers board they need to take him.

If we win the lottery, we draft 1st overall. If we don't, we either draft in our position on reverse NHL standings, or 1 position down from that if another lower team wins the draft lottery.

you're coming at it from a weird angle

his play dropped because of the mono, and thusly his ranking dropped

Nope.

I think a lot of this, its their job so they are smarter than all of us is a bit of BS.

We are all just people in the end, and I dont consider any GM or scout to be drastically smarter than any of us. Mistakes are made time and time again, that even the most "casual" fans can see. These guys arent gods, with 250 IQ's.

Too many sheep out there.

Small chance to jump to #1, other than that they can only move down 1 slot if I understand it all correctly.

Graham is the back up for Subban but probably will be given the chance to take over the starting role next season. When he's played he's done very well for himself.

Martin had a rough year but so did his team even though they made the playoffs and when I asked about him I was told scouts like him a lot and that when you look at him you have to think upside.

But if they are that strong on Jarry if they even are then don't hesitate to pull the trigger in round 2 unless they feel they can get him in round 3.

I have to search but Bill has a better line on him.

ISS says "Superior hockey IQ. 2-way player. Work ethic 2nd to none. Complete player in all 3 zones."

I found this below but take it with a grain of salt.
