Thoughts on possible CBJ v. Blackhawks first round? Has the potential to be pretty epic especially if Bob steals a game on the road. FYI CBJ has picked up the pace offensively too so I wouldn't call them a tight ctrapping style. We have a very aggressive forechecking and a number of D who can contribute offensively.
Ps. Niemi was abysmal tonight |

When you think about it, this team pretty much added a whole first line vs. last season for the playoffs. Combine that with the improvement from the depth guys, this team is much deeper and more consistent - rollpards19
Beyond the additions....The Hawks finally play a consistent style...Team defense has been great.

The run the Icehogs went on was a good character builder for this young team. Would have been better to make the playoffs but I will take this in place of giving up when the playoffs did not seem possible a couple months ago. Too bad because the way they were rolling I think they would have gone a long way.
With their depth and experience the future bodes well for the Hogs. - 67hawks
AHL teams aren't built like NHL teams.....usually most of the roster is turned over somewhat...with McNeil, Ross, Danault, Leblanc, Nordstrom and a few other expect at least a dozen players to be playing within another system next year. |

Still a few more road games left and if they get there the Jackets deserve it.

quite a run by the jackets...if they get in they may have one helluva let down...this has been there cup run. Only the 2nd loss @ home in regulation for the Sharks; hwks beat them earlier at the beginning of the season.
HUGE game tomorrow: Phx vs Wings. Phx loses its goodbye. Wings need to get at least 3 of the next 4 to tie the jackets before they play next.
another 3 pt gme with Kings beating stars in OT...stars avoid flatlining for another nite. |

I think the BJ's end up being the 7th seed and the Wild & Wings end up fighting it out for the 8th spot.

It would be a good series, I think the key would be the Jackets have to win one of the first two in Chicago. The Hawks haven't lost to the Jackets in 2+ years, so CBJ would need some early confidence |

Great point. A lot less free wheeling with the puck, and greatly improved back-checking from the top down. They seem to communicate better in their own zone when the puck goes from corner to corner. The center's and D communicate and as a result the give up a lot less shots in the middle of the ice. Also the wings collapse a little more now, a la the Rangers last year. Give up shots from the point but also block a lot of them. |

tough call but jackets need to win out vs stars and preds = 55; wild wld need to lose 2 of 3 or get less than 4 pts as they hold tie breaker
i am a wing fan tomorrow nite...i don't want phx anywhere near that 8th spot
expect a regular diet of 3 pt gmes this week; preds and aves may have some fun

Stars vs. Jackets game will be huge. Is it at Dallas or Columbus? I agree about not wanting Phoenix in. But, I don't really want Detroit in, either. I have a feeling we won't know who anyone plays until Saturday night. |

Game is in Dallas...but again the Jackets only have two games left...while the Wings have 4. Columbus as a 7th seed would be fine - let the Ducks deal with them. I'd rather play the Wings - they play the same puck possession game as the Hawks. Plus an original 6 matchup. Wings host the Yotes tonight big game for sure.
If it is the Wings Craw would get the nod...but after seeing Craw have the same mental mistakes popping and has looked shaky in the last two you have to wonder if Q will go to Razor? Love how Ray isn't intimidated - like when he was jawing at the Blues from the bench the other week. The team feeds off that.
The other concern would be one of Craw's soft goals. How deflating is it to finally get a goal on the PP you're working hard and your goalie lets one in from Oak Park? The flip side of course was how he was against the Blues just last weekend. Which goalie do we get come playoffs? |

I liked the Emery signing when the 'Hawks made it. Good low risk move, he has a lot of experience including the '07 final and fit the bill for the 'Hawks still recovering from the "cap-ocalypse".
That said, it's clear now Razor should be the guy to go to in the playoffs. I'm not sure if CC is going to pout and be a distraction but he has at least 2 games to prove these brain farts the last few games can be eliminated.
I remember reading all the hysteria about Razor after the 1st weekend of the season. CC helped beat the cup/ring hangover Kings 5-2 but Razor was awful in the 6-4 win over the 'yotes. He was a bum and should be relegated to gate duties like Huet in the spring of '10. After ONE game.... how's he look now?
One has to look no further than the goalie records that would substantiate JJ's comment about the team playing better in front of Razor. Of the 10 total losses the team has, only ONE of them are with Razor in net. With nearly identical SV% and GAA, CC is 18-4-5 and Razor is 16-1-0.
OK gimmick-haters (I'm not fond of it either): Take out "the gimmick games" and it's 14-4 for CC and 14-1 for Razor. So in pure hockey sense, CC has a .778 WP and Razor has a .933 WP. Sure, .778 is nothing to sneeze at and a playoff pct at that level clearly spells parade in late June. But how much better is that .933 pct? Wow!

As I said yesterday, 10 of Ray's 15 wins came against non-payoff teams. Corey's played the bulk of the games vs top end opposition which skews those numbers considerably IMO.

That would be good, too, but maybe I'm gtting ahead of myself but I think the pens are getting out of the eaat and I think the rangers have the best shot of anyone battling for 8th to knock them out. And I also would like to see Toronto vs. Ottawa |
