There's other prospects who are as good as Seth Jones. If I was picking first, I'd take Nathan MacKinnon.

Also, which team with great defensemen are in the hunt for the top pick? Right now, in the bottom ten, there's Nashville & Phoenix. Nobody else has a guy who is a Norris level player. There's teams that have some good young defensemen, but they're not elite guys yet.

- Jsaquella

Kulikov, Gudbranson, EJ, Hedman, J Schultz, Klefbom, Larsson and Merrill are all property of teams below the Flyers in the standings and have Norris-level talent. A majority may never come close to sniffing that potential, but at least it's there. The only team that's as sad with respect to blueline depth as the Flyers is Calgary. Every other team in the basement has a number of promising options.

I wouldn't be surprised to see a shakeup at the top a la 2002, with a team trading up to take a forward that they covet, and the #1 ranked player subsequently dropping down a spot or two. I also wouldn't be surprised to see Florida rank one of the forwards higher than Jones. I don't think Colorado would pass on Jones, however.

For Buffalo he is. I don't think he would be on most teams.
- phillydentist

He simply is a first pairing D man. And he'd be a first paring defenseman on most teams. Including the Flyers. I'd love to see the Flyers get Erhoff.

While the Flyers have certainly played better in their last 2 games, lets be objective here. Montreal played awful and Carey Price had a poor game and if Mason doesn't stand on his head in the 3rd period, the Flyers most likely lose against the Rangers.

@NHLAdamK: #Flyers Steve Mason out for early work with goalie coach Jeff Reese. Likely means Bryzgalov starts tonite vs. Devils

Well that should improve our draft position.

How dare they get a look at the guy they have to make a multi-million dollar decision on!
- BulliesPhan87

lol. Yeah, they do need to evaluate him. But, I do suspect he will be back. I don't trust Mason yet. Show me more games like his performance against NYR and I'll be convinced.

I have no problems with the Flyers playing Bryzgalov tonight. But Mason did earn another start with his performance against the Rangers.

I have to agree. This season is shot, let's break Mason in a bit more slowly than just sink or swim. The wolves (us) are pretty brutal in Philly...

No matter how well he plays, they've got to build him back up gradually and handle him with a measure of patience. They're not playing for anything now, so a conservative approach is probably called for. Get the kid's confidence up a notch or two before the summer, then let Reese do his thing.

I'm not ready to hand Mason the keys to the WFC yet, either. He had a good game, but it's just one game.

Rangers, Devils, Jets, and Sabres have to start (or keep) losing.... That's a lot of teams to rely on...

Can't see why they would need to evaluate a guy with 5 games left when he's been their #1 goalie for 2 years. Is 1 game against a poor devils team going to cause them to rethink their opinion that is based on 80 or so games as a Flyers starting goalie.

Mason is the only goaltender that should need evaluated. They have plenty of tape on Bryz in orange and black. My guess is they are doing Bryz a solid, the same as Briere. It's about not embarrassing vet players regardless of their situation.

0-6-4 in their last 10 and the Flyers have won 2 in a row against Montreal and the Rangers. why does this just reek of a Flyers loss?
