Just chiming in now on the signings. I am happy with signing Rinaldo, but Rosehill confuses me a bit.. As someone said, if we're going to sign someone now, I'd sign Hall. Really like his game. Faceoffs etc awesome.. may like to have more offense but I'd be happy to re sign. Rosehill isn't as ludicrous as the SHelley signing was, and I guess we always want a tough guy here. What was the rush to re sign him?

Guess he can always be waived if we need the cap space. It really seems to me that Homer is getting all other housekeeping matters sorted out before he hits the draft looking to upgrade the D.

I hope mez and Coburn can bounce back next year. Mez has been hurt an awful lot lately and they weren't simple injuries.

Doubtful.

not the biggest deal, i agree, but it's more about contract limit flexibility. i understand that walker, shelley, et al are history. why create another lead weight if we need to lose a contract? agree about hall, of course.
- isaiah520

Apparently the Flyers don't consider it a lead weight contract. What makes it a lead weight? That you don't agree with the signing? He's exactly the kind of player you want for a 13th Forward. At the right price. I don't see the issue.

If the flyers go 5-0 (very doubtful), chances of making the playoff are around 13% -15%.

The player has a say. Maybe Hall doesn't want to sign here. Or maybe he wants to test Free Agency. That they signed Rosehill now, doesn't mean that they chose him over Hall.

They want a tough guy, they like what Rosehill has done thus far and probably was willing to take the deal. He's getting a slight raise, and he's actually a better player than I thought he was.

I mean, if you're compelled to carry a tough guy, might as well be paying him a low salary and have a guy that can take a regular 4th line shift, and Rosehill's done that for them.

Some have asked why the Flyers have looked so good the last few games. Well one reason is a rejuvenated Sean Couturier, playing with better linemates.

No doubt. I stated this to Jasq a couple of weeks ago when the Flyers won 4 in a row.

I said that I know it isn't just Couturier but I wanted to think Sean turning the corner is the reason the flyers turned the corner.

Some flyers fans believe that a Norris calibre #1 one defenseman is needed to win a Stanley Cup yet I can name teams that have won without them; Carolina and Pittsburgh since the lockout. Yet you cant name teams that have won a cup without a top notch center. And usually those winning teams are two deep at the position.
- psuhockey

You still need a #1 guy. A team full of average D man wont get you too far you need those 2 good defenceman at least. Look at Philly, with Pronger. Leighton looked like a decent goalie, if we had Bryz at that point, we would have beaten the Hawks. Niemi sucked as well but he was still better than Leighton

If you're going to play a tight checking game, and your team is very good defensively, then you can get away with just a solid D core. But if you're going to play the way Laviolette wants the Flyers to play. Well then I think you definitely need some top puck moving defenseman in the lineup.

Totally agree. In my opinion Coots has to the #2 center behind G with skilled wingers. Next year, I would move B. Schenn to wing if need be, if they want to slide Laughton into the checking role spot. I hope the organization finally understands he is ready to handle more duties then PK and playing on an energy line.

I really think they missed out on an opportunity there with Couturier. He played far too many games on the 4th line with lesser skilled players.

I looked into it and found Laughton finished the OHL season winning 61.1% of his face offs which wasn't even tops on his own team.

It was very perplexing. Even when Lava would juggle the lines to get an offensive spark, he wouldn't move Coots. Heck, ever forward played with G at least for a little while, except Rosehill, Rinaldo, Hall, and Coots (I understand they both play center, but even try double shifting once or twice a game to mix it up). The guy has really good offensive skill, I could see the gameplan his rookie year. This year was bordering on stupidity.

In my ideal world for next year, I would have Laughton centering Talbot and Gagne with Hall centering a 4th line of Rinaldo and Hall. So, of course this is never going to happen next year.

Laughton isbetter off starting on the 4th line next year, he will only be 19 and theres no need to rush him into a spot hes not ready for yet.

Why not re-sign Gagne, sign a good hard working vet like Breden Morrow and have 2good lines like: Morrow-Schenn-Read
and Gagne-Coots-Simmonds

I might even suggest using Read on his line instead of Gagne

A fine suggestion. However, I like Read with Coots and Simmonds. Also, I'm hoping Hartnell rebounds next year and goes back up to the first line.

What are your thoughts on Gus? Is he growing as a d-man right now, or does Kimmo just make every partner he plays with look capable?
