you are assuming they dont make it without him

I'm assuming it would be a lot harder to make the playoffs with Carkner then Streit so yeah I'll stick with that assumption.

We all grasp what you're saying, we're not stupid. But its obvious that you put less value on Streits potential contributions to a playoff run and whatever good may come of that run than you do on a late second round pick. 99.9% of the hockey world beg to differ.

because he's an asset that would have brought back another asset... if he walks... you gain nothing... you are late to the party if you haven't grasped that yetXxNYIxX

And you are too stubborn to realize the importance of not trading the Captain of team making a playoff push for a 2nd rd pick... Which might turn into absolutley nothing... Think for a minute.

Secondly, it was reported that the Isles and Streit were 500k off per year on his contract extension. So if the Islanders want him back then he will be back and this whole conversation will be for nothing.

(A second round pick from a playoff team is not a true asset a rebuilding team covets.)

And thats fine also...

I hope he gets resigned.... but if he makes it to the market... he's gone.

I agree with most of what you said.

But you do all of that while Boyes is on the team. You don't let him go and see if it works because if it doesn't you're screwed. At least if he's there we have a plan B.

Again, signing him for another year, bringing a prospect or two up and letting them see the first line, and trading Boyes at the deadline if things work with the prospect is the smart move.

Letting Boyes go and hoping that the prospect works without any other plan is a stupid move.

Iginla isn't signing here. No other big name player is either. So my opinion is they stick with what they got while mixing in the prospects and trade Boyes if the prospects work.

Because the Isles will be at the coliseum next year, do not expect much added payroll except getting to cap floor. Unless Wang has a change of heart "which he doesn't" I could see the same team with minor additions. Streit will be gone, Donovan will have his chance to replace him, Boyes will only be back, if Snow can not find a much better replacement by trade or FA.

Don't be surprised if Snow goes after Kessel in off-season.... as the 1 big fish

Know what's funny.. how at the deadline.. everyone was talking about how we needed to trade him because JT needs to be Capt & he wasnt resigning.

Now we are in a solid playoff race & we didnt trade him & the tunes have changed...

Wrong most people said you trade him if you got a deal you couldn't turn down. You couldn't find one person outside of yourself who would have been happy trading him for a 2nd rd pick. Nobody!! When all else fails just throw out the old most people said line followed up with BS. That seems to be a trend around these parts

My tune has never changed... I wanted to move Streit only if it was for a 1st rd pick or overpayment and I also do not want to resign him if the contract he wants is ridiculous. (That being said, its not going to be.)

I also think that JT should be the Captain but his time will come.

Exactly, trading away the Captain of a young team while in the middle of a playoff push (for the 1st time) signifies that management has no confidence in the group they have and that they are giving up on the season.

I felt he should be traded at the deadline because Vis re-signed, and thought he'd only return a 2nd. JT needs to be captain.

Also, Boyes sucks!

I kinda just skipped from the first page to the last, so if I missed anything I apologize, but I haven't seen a single thing on the Isles signing the d-man from Quinnipiac.

I look at the Streit situation as six of one and half dozen of the other. While he brings offensive talents, he's also a bit of a defensive liability. I don't think his presence is irreplaceable by any means but it's hard to argue with the overall team chemistry during this run. I also think his game has greatly improved since the trade deadline has passed. He's been far more physical. I doubt many would have been upset if he traded for a rental dman to assist our playoff run, so you sort ofhave to look at Streit as our playoff rental at this point.

I agree. I've never said that Boyes is the best option but as of right now he's the only option. Going into July 1 without him signed would be a mistake IMO.

Kessel would be a great addition and would be a great replacement for the top line. If that happened then I'd be in favor of not extending Boyes.
