I guess you wouldn't trade Kadri for Datsyuk? Kadri has more goals and same number of points. Obviously they have equal value. And you wouldn't even look at a guy like Zetterberg. Giroux and Tavares are pretty much equal to Kadri too.
Is that how you determine players value? One season? And the most current one? - kneughter
um... no. absolutely not.
22 year old Kadri with his whole career ahead of him for 34 yr old Datsyuk? never.
and I'm one of the guys who's been adament Datsyuk is one of the 5 best players EVER. |

Unless you think Datsyuk is the one piece that will get you a cup, no way do you do that deal. |

exactly...
but Kneughter's logic here certainly explains why he thinks Luongo can be moved at all...
No cup contending team needs a goalie... and Lu doesn't make any non-contender a contender.
Period.

And while the cap hit may not be important to a team that isn't near the cap, the salary still is.
Here's the problem with Vancouver's deus ex machina that will magically solve all their problems (to wit: that some team like Florida will desperately want him because they have cap space): the teams that have lots of cap space have so much cap space because they're POOR.
Florida is broke. Tampa is broke. The Isles are broke. They don't have the 6.7 million dollars on hand to pay Bobby Lu until 2018 (when it drops down).
Also, there's this elephant in the room that is named "Ryan Miller". If I'm paying assets to get a goalie, I'm going after him. |

Wtf people, we're a C U Next Tuesday's hair away from officially ending nine years in the non-playoff desert, and you talking about LOLONGO.
All I know is today the Leafs can clinch a playoff spot for the first time since the Chretien administration. I have a Leafs jersey, and enough premium domestic beer and herbal medicine to paralyze a donkey. And tonight, if Allah wills it, it's way more than likely that I will be timing my fistful of love to the dying seconds of the Jets' game and jizzing on my own face at the Moment of Clinch. You cats need to prioritize on a day like this. |

Long-term Luongo would be good for a team that needs to hit the floor though. When he retires they'll be paying him nothing while still getting a cap hit penalty. Quite attractive to a team that needs to hit the floor!
