Ban yourself ....

Seriously, you really can't understand how saving money doesn't help their cap?

I gave you the hypothetical .....it works for Van ...if Florida has interest.

- The Law

I think the larger point is that they are beyond the point of needing to "save" money. They need to dump entire contracts.

It's not good enough for them to get a 2 or 3 million dollar savings. They need to get a 5.5 million dollar savings.

Let's say they tax half...

I'd still take $500,000 playing backup.

Wouldn't you?

It's all relative. If I was Lou and had the opportunities that he will have in retirement and have earned close to 100 million over my career ...the very easy answer is no.

I completely agree... Markstrom is easily 3-4 years away from being a legitimate number 1. SO there would be potential for Lu to sign there for 4-5 years at say.. 5 million per.

However, with his current contract... I could still see Florida taking him.. and sorting it out 4-5 years from now. They are a Luongo away from at least being playoff bound over the next few years. I don't know exact dollars.. but I figure that might be enticing enough for ownership to get some playoff rounds in there.

- kneughter

He was there before for 4 years and never got them to the playoffs.. but this time he will for sure..

Nucks will be stuck with a 10 mil in goalies... unless Gillis takes his head out of his a$$ and gives him away for free.. its about freeing up cash..not what you get in return at this point.

These scenarios are all so reasonable that I am shocked that he hasn't been traded yet. Any year now.
- Canada Cup

No one knows what is going on behind the scenes... I'll give Gillis benefit of the doubt for now. We will see what happens next year.

I'm actually glad they didn't trade Luongo to Toronto for the reported two 2nd rounders. (as I'm sure you are as well)

I think for this year.. it was better to keep Luongo.. as we are fine cap wise.. than getting a couple draft picks for him.

The summer will hopefully be a better time for a trade to take place.. but we will find out.

Well I believe Ballard, Booth and Lu will be gone next year. Whether it is trades, buy out, or waivers. They will be gone.

SO yes.. they can take SOME salary back. I'm not talking like Brian Campbell salary. I'm talking betwee 3-4 million in salary.

Why does everyone think Vancouver is screwed cap wise?? Kassian and Jensen will be in the line up.

Lots of teams are in this same position.. Gillman is a cap guru.. I imagine he will help Gillis figure it out.

- kneughter

you guys make getting rid of players sound easy.. remember.. the cap goes down for everyone next year.. including the floor.. teams wont have to spend as much to reach it

its going to be a hell of a lot harder than you seem to think. for the same reasons you state. more than one team will be looking to dump salary

Yeah....Caps not really an over agressive team. Except Orlesky.

Could be a good game to bring him back.

You need to get off whatever it is you're taking. Or back on it. I can't tell.

What's going on behind the scenes is Gillis desperately calling Nonis three times to beg for our back-up goalie and a 2nd rounder.

And being rejected. What does that tell you about Luongo's worth?

I think anyone who actually watched that Florida team would know that Luongo was the only bright spot of that team. They had absolutely NO support up front.

Luongo single handily carried Vancouver into the playoffs his first year.. and past Dallas in the 1st round.. which can only be described as one of the greatest playoff performances in 1 round by a goaltender.

And yes, it has gotten to the point where I think the focus will be about unloading the salary and less about the return. But again, we will see what Gillis can get done. SO many people just making assumptions here. He has only tried trading him for ONE SEASON.. and a shortened one for that. Just give him a break.. and some time. Wow

They do have 2 buyouts over the next 2 years in there pocket.

It will be gutsy to buy out Luongo and I doubt they do it but it's there....

Still have a feeling if we win tonight, your "other" team will win too or lose in OT to delay the clinch.

Luckily they're not operating in a vacuum. They are in trouble ...serious cap trouble for atleast one year. They need to save cap space any way they can but they've got a few options beyond just Lou. The compliance buyout is an option and I have to believe they'll use it on Ballard ...they'll have to do the best they can with Lou. Saving 4 million is on his contract is still a very good option ...one that ownership will prefer to 27 million dollar buyout.

Yes.. the cap is where it was like 3 years ago... and guess what will most likely happen after next season? It will go UP.. who knows how much. But maybe to 68 million. Pretty much where it was last season.

The cap is going down.. but not to crazy low amounts. Assuming your GM didn't sign a bunch of players this past off season with the assumption the cap will be at 70+ million forever.

Most teams will have to make some moves to shed some salary.. or let a UFA walk that maybe they normally wouldn't. This is not just isolated to the Canucks.

Obviously they can't afford to have almost 10 million just on goalies.. but I imagine they will make it work.

Well I take what Dreger says with regards to Nonis with a grain of salt.

No one hear knows exactly what happened.. and will probably never know. There was already conflicting reports of what was asked.. or proposed and by whom.

Lets just say for now.. YOU "think" he will get nothing in return and I "think" he will get some sort of return.. although nothing spectacular. And we can leave it at that.

thats what i am saying

right now (as it stands with no assumptions on player movement being made) they have about 1.4million in cap space with 8 guys to sign.

thats fact. no assumptions.

Thats why I take it with a grain of salt... would it be so hard to believe he would rather push Nonis agenda over Gillis?

Not saying he would.. but it wouldn't be impossible to believe.

And how much do they have to sign with Booth, Ballard and Lu gone

Its safe to assume at least 2 out of those 3 are gone come next season.

Canucks will NOT buy out Lu. He would go on waivers before that.. and you got a couple teams that would pick him up.

I would love for the Nucks to keep 10 mil tied up in goalies for the next few years.. until they become the next Canadian Team to blow it up and rebuild.
