We're getting into the finite details here but ...
1. Nobody has made the imfamous cap floor argument
2. It does if they eat a reasonable amount say 1 or 1.5 per year. I said 20% of his salary which would be 1.34 per year in salary and about 1 in cap space. That would gain them over 4 million in space that they desperately need. - The Law
oh whatever

lets just see how it plays out.. i sincerely doubt any team takes him without a huge package coming along with him - Dozzer
I think worst case is they waive him.
Oilers SHOULD take him if they did.
In fact Lowe should fire himself it they don't... Sure they RATHER have say Bernier, who can grow with them and hopefully be and elite #1 in a couple years, but Lu's there right now.
MacT's comments in his press make me think it's on the radar at least.
would solve a lot of problems for them immediately. |

DO you know how much 1 Million dollars is. I know he has alot of money, but it's 1 million dollars. It's not like they are paying him in gift vouchers. Wanna play for 3 more years and then buy a helicopter. Or an island. Or 821917 bags of skittles. (frank) yes i'm playing - walshyleafsfan
I do yes. Do you know how much the government taxes on 1 million dollars? In the end he'd make more playing online poker in his retirement than he would lugging his bag around and playing backup and taking pucks off the mask during practice.
Those dollars are for cap circumvention ...not for Lou's enjoyment. |

Let's say they tax half...
I'd still take $500,000 playing backup.
Wouldn't you? |

jesus (frank)! they cant AFFORD to take salary back!
they need all the cap space they can get!
why cant you guys get this one simple fact through your heads? - Dozzer
Ban yourself ....
Seriously, you really can't understand how saving money doesn't help their cap?
I gave you the hypothetical .....it works for Van ...if Florida has interest. |

I know you are entitled to your opinion.. and you're a ref. But you're wrong.
They will get "something" for him.. they may have to take salary back. But it won't require them "piling on a bunch of young cheap assets" to get the deal done.
And CS has given lots of praise to Luongo for helping his development... Markstrom needs at least 2 full seasons being a back up.. and hopefully to a goalie that can actually teach him some stuff. A guy like Luongo would do wonders for his development. But I do agree.. it would just end up putting Florida in the same position Canucks are!
So I don't think Florida is the best team for Lu.. but it will be an option I'm sure. - kneughter
These scenarios are all so reasonable that I am shocked that he hasn't been traded yet. Any year now. |

Well I believe Ballard, Booth and Lu will be gone next year. Whether it is trades, buy out, or waivers. They will be gone.
SO yes.. they can take SOME salary back. I'm not talking like Brian Campbell salary. I'm talking betwee 3-4 million in salary.
Why does everyone think Vancouver is screwed cap wise?? Kassian and Jensen will be in the line up.
Lots of teams are in this same position.. Gillman is a cap guru.. I imagine he will help Gillis figure it out. |

They wouldn't pick up a worse one, though. Like I said, Vancouver would be on the hook for a large portion of the salary.
Which would you rather have, Luongo at 3.5 million per, or Brygalov at 8 million in real salary + a cap hit of 5.66 million per? - Mr_Clean
Okay, but if Vancouver is eating that much salary, is it not fair to say they got "nothing" in return?
If they managed to get a first rounder for Luongo, but ate 2 million a year for the next decade, I'd argue that the return they received is a net zero. |

Certainly a more favorable option than BUYING OUT which is what a lot of people seem to think is the only option |
