I like Ollie, I hope he sticks around.
He uses his size and reach well, and already seems to be an A+ shot blocker

- Marc D

If nothing else, he's a player who can step in as a poor man's Grossmann (right now). I'm sure he'll improve in time, and he's definitely a viable 6/7.

wow. give it a rest already. you're clearly missing the context of his statement, and just repeating it ad naseum is not going to make you any less off base, and even worse, it isn't funny or entertaining.

The difference is pretty obvious. In a perfect world, without all these injuries he doesn't think we would want to give a young kid a baptism by fire on this horrendous team just to get a look at them in the NHL. But when you're debating on whether to use number 12 or number 13 on the depth chart, all bets are off, and you do what you have to do to ice the best team you can. It's really that simple.

A simple concept to understand. And really if it needs to be explained, well......

year from hell injury wise

unbelievable really

- Marc D

Had we not already been losing before the other half of our Defensemen went down, I'd probably blame the season on the injuries...

All this and we were already down Pronger. Geez we could ice a full blueline with our Injured players.

Pronger/Meszaros
Coburn/Grossman
Gervais/Huskins
Bourdon

It's not a bad lineup really...

Does that mean we have to look forward to him chumming over the side boards during the SCF's?

They are calling them up because their defense is crippled. You never said it would ruin them, but you did say, "This isn't the best place for a new pro to play right now." I don't know how it becomes a better place now that Huskins is hurt. I'd think they'd call up Syvret if anything, as he's not a young pro. What did you mean by that comment?

You said, "I think there are better options available, rather then throwing a kid into a situation that he's not ready for." I'm curious as to what those decisions are, now that we need them.

- jmatchett383

It doesn't become a better place, with Huskins hurt. What it becomes is that you have no choice but to call up the kids!

Go back to the context of the conversation. Should the Flyers, now that they're out of the playoffs, call up some kids to get a look at them at the NHL level. In my opinion, no, they should not. My opinion stands.

I'm just letting you know I'm not going to read this on here because I'll get pulled back into it. Please PM me if you want to discuss it further.

That begs the question: When do you call up your prospects then?

I want him to tell me what these better options are.
- jmatchett383

LOL, right now, when you're down to depth chart well into the Phantoms. When you have atleast 5 NHL regulars hurt, and already have 2 players called up from the Phantoms already playing. This is not really hard to understand.

2 reasons.

1) When you feel a player is ready for the NHL, and you feel he can improve the team.

2) When you have injuries and you need to call up a replacement player.

You'd normally like to get them a fair amount of time in the AHL but in times like this it doesn't matter they have little choice but to call them up.

Funny you mention Bundy.

I kinda think Lauridsen reminds me of a young Chris Therien.

- johndewar

People forget that Bundy was an NHL All-Rookie selection in his first year and instantly stepped into the top 4. Lauridsen doesn't skate as well as Therien did when he was young.

This is why I also say we need to keep out picks and develop a deeper talent pool. Not all will work out but sometimes it will provide good options when calling somebody up.

I will never use common urban phrases like "That's how I roll son" on the board again. My deepest sincerest apologies.

Chris was actually a very good skater. If I recall correctly, he scored fairly high in skating competitions amongst the rest of the team at the time.
