I can't speak for others, but with 7 games left in a season that is finished but for the crying, I'm not just talking about Lauridsen.

I'd start throwing in our top prospects to see how they do for a few games each.

Here's the counterbalance to that: You have veterans that are competing for jobs next year. By playing the vets and letting them do their thing, the organization is being kind to guys like Gags and Rusty by letting them strut their stuff so they can get a contract next year.

The message that sends is that the organization will take care of you. Not a bad rep to have.

I think a more pertinent question would be this: What idiot emails Frank Seravelli for hockey information or opinion?

so a half season after years of being a force on a contending team who went deep in the playoffs on a usual basis, is grounds for a lynching by the fans?
- JoeRussomanno

Nope. Tocchet playing with as much emotion as an Easter Island statue was the reason fans shredded him. He played like he didn't give a rat's ass.

If you (frank) around on your job for half a year, what happens?
- wolfhounds

I don't play professional sports but at my job some might say that's how you get promoted.

However there are players here now who have not given their all this year as evidenced by the slop of the past few games we've had to watch. Should we run Giroux and co. out of town now?

I agree, there is a balance that needs to be struck.

The correct time is when you feel they are ready to play some games in the NHL. when they've reached that level of development. You don't put young players in the NHL to be helathy scratches or play limited minutes when they do play. That is what veteran defenseman such as Foster and Huskins are for. It's not a tryout for a play, where you just throw somebody up there. You mention Alt and othe rplayers. What do you really know about them? Do you have any idea if they're ready to play in the NHL? Or are you just throwing names out there?
- MJL

I know Mark Alt is large enough to play in the NHL at 6'3, 195 lb. He is a right-handed defenseman and is considered a good, agile skater despite his size. He put up decent two-way numbers of Minnesota. Has been a +18 his last 2 seasons at Minnesota.

Manning's had a rough year, I'll give you that. But he's seen NHL action before and didn't look out of place. I'd like to see if he can come in and really fight hard for a potential spot next year.

I don't know much about Konan other that what I've heard, and it's that he's probably a fringe NHLer at best.

And I wouldn't want to play with the forward ranks, as I'd hate to put a halt to the Flyers' torrid scoring, but I'd like to see if Noebels could play at this level, and maybe Akeson.

Actually, I'd love to be watching the Phantoms games right now.

I followed that game yesterday that went to shoot out over my twitter feed. Mark Alt with the shootout winner....and Laughton scored.

so is almost the whole team now. But mostly everyone is focused on the goalie which brings this full circle to the orignal point was that a young goalie like hartzel probably wouldn't want to play here.

Certainly couldn't hurt, wouldn't be a bad idea to send Couturier as well. His skating is more than adequate, but I think there is room for improvement by increasing his lower body strength.
- BiggE

It's always good to see players work on their craft in the summer. I'd like to see guys take the initiative themselves, too. Shjon Podein went to power skating classes on his own one summer and went from a fringe guy to a good 3rd line grinder.

Correct! My friends and I, who used to love Tocchet, booed the crap out of him that year. The lack of effort was just that obvious, and it's why I have NO respect for him today.

Right, some companies are funny like that.

The thing is - and I don't really remember Tocc being booed like crazy (too long ago) - but G and the rest don't have the ire of the fans right now, and that's what we're talking about.

I still like Tocchet from what he did in the '80's and the early '00's, but let's be honest: When Tocchet speaks, he's kinda full of crap.

Hartzell probably would have been sent to the Phantoms, anyhow. What's going on now is a lot different than what happened to Tocchet.

Now, now let's be honest. We have a good hockey team if we play 20 maybe 40 minute games. It's the full 60 we lack...
Lavi looks like Homer kicks his puppy before every game... So I feel like he's no longer inspiring them. He knows he's on the chopping block and is at a loss on how to correct it.
Time to find out if we can dust off this core and pick ourselves up and be ready to go for next season.

so they take half a game off at a time roughly, which by my calculation comes out to half a season off.

Maybe someone should sit them all down and make them play more games or something....

Kinda like Mr. Hand did with Spicoli at the end of "Fast Times at Ridgemont High".
