I dont see him as being good enough to be a consistent penciled in 3rd liner. Again, we will see.

I think what would help McGinn land a permanent role, would be if he developed a PK game, and added another element to his overall play.

I see Cousins, McGinn, and Laughton fighting for a spot next season in training camp. Cousins has shown a better ability to put the puck in the net, and has grit to his game as well. Not a crazy thing to think he will beat out McGinn.

- flyer_nutter

This is what puzzles me. McGinn has played 18 NHL games. What do you possibly have to go on to say that he won't be consistent enough to be a 3rd line player? Nothing! Same thing with Schenn. Who has played a little over 100 NHL games.

Where has Cousins shown a better ability? In Juniors? He hasn't played a single NHL game.

Timonen, Schenn, Oliver, Huskins, Guss and Rosehill?

Never would have thought going into this season

As you say 18 games is a small sample size, so I dont see him having a huge jump on Cousins there. Its a message board, we have opinions. I dont feel McGinn will be a consistent 3rd liner in the league because I see him being too one dimensional. We will see.

I do think Cousins will be a better NHL player.

Regarding Brayden Schenn? Dont really know, I suppose its a vibe. I dont really see him excelling in one area. He is poor defensively, and I dont see him being a real threatening 2nd line center in the league. Maybe he proves me wrong. Maybe not. I'm not going to go balls to the walls defending a guy who has really done jack poop in his NHL career. Potential is just a word, we will see what happens.

Can Boruk and Clement please stop talking about the playoffs? It is kind of cutting in to their credibility.

3rd line players are one dimensional. If they weren't, they wouldn't be 3rd line players!
I think you're just making it up as you go along. Cousins may wind up being a better NHL player. He may not. How many games have you actually watched Cousins play?
And I have no idea what you're basing your stance on Schenn on. The whole team is poor defensively. Claude Giroux is poor defensively! Who said anything about defending a player? All I'm saying is give a player a chance. Instead of just guessing.

I'm giving him a chance. I dont see how I am not? I am not the Flyers management, I just watch the team play, and have my opinions. Never did I say burn McGinn or Schenn at the stake. What happens happens.

3rd line players are not all one dimensional. Many 3rd line players play on the PK, and that makes them more valuable, as well as more likely to stick in the NHL. I think that would help McGinn stick up in the league.

You are 100% right Claude Giroux is poor defensively. He can improve and imo will, but that is an issue on its own. I am making it up as I go?? Huh??? Kind of going to be done here, dont really see this heading anywhere.

Edit: regarding Cousins I havent ever watched a whole game, I dont have time. I've seen glimpses here and there ever since he got drafted by the Flyers. I would say I probably saw about the same amount of him as McGinn's time with the Flyers, even though realistically it is a bit less.

One thing I would really like to see Flyers return to is having permanent duo's built. Voracek/Giroux look like a good one.

Stevens actually did this a lot, but for a long time it was Hartnell/Briere, etc.

This NBCsports feed just called Yandle, Yandelll.... Jesus Christ.

So a player on the 3rd line who plays on the PK is a checking defensive Winger. If he had higher offensive ability, he'd play on a higher line. 3rd line players have limited skill packages. That's why they're 3rd line players.
So I'm correct, your statement that Cousins will be a better NHL player then McGinn is a guess. I don't know how you can make the statements you have, when you've never really seen the player, play.
You've seen Cousins play in Juniors. McGinn in the NHL. Big difference.

Your assumption that Bryzgalov is not a distraction, that Hartnell will rebound, Grossman will return with no issues, Brayden Schenn will develop into a threatening 2nd line center, McGinn, etc etc.

All technically also all a guess no?

Its a message board, we've got opinions. If you think McGinn will be better than Cousins and a solid 3rd line winger in the NHL. By all means run with it.
