Its comical at this point.

The only thing here is, what happens if all this "potential" and bright future doesnt turn out as thought? All of them magically dont play better under a new coach?

The thought that the crew on the ice might not actually be that good...

Optimism is one thing, but I could see this thing take a few years to rebuild. People dont want to hear it, but I could see it happening.

- flyer_nutter

it certainly could. there are no guarantees, obviously

The thought of most is that it was going to take a few years, even before this Season started. So that's nothing new. Most, myself included however, believed that they could be a playoff team this year.

Thats the risky thing with young players. Or filling out a team with inconsistent 2nd tier guys.

We will see. As a fan I hope it all works out, but there are a number of things that could go wrong.

Next year will be as much of an evaluation year as this one. We should get a better feeling. It just might not be as pretty as some people think.

This is setting up for the Flyers to some how get the first overall pick and they take Jones.

Then Jones turns out to be the next Alexander Daigle but in dman form.

- opeth_pa

Or even more hilarious? They get the first pick, DONT take the dman and take another center (they love their centers this team), the guy they pick is Alex Daigle 2.0 and Jones goes on to be the #1 guy for some team playing close too 30 mins a night for the next decade and wins a couple of cups.

With this team's luck this does not seem far fetched

Every team fills in with so called inconsistent 2nd tier players. What team fills in with 1st tier players?
Next year isn't going to be an evaluation year. It's going to be the same as this year. Trying to win, with the goal being to win the Stanley Cup. The same as it is every year for every team starting out.

This season has been a failure from the top of the organization down. Thats nothing new and we all know it. To base them completely off of it is wrong, but to ignore it would be a mistake also. In the hardest of times? Who stepped up?

Rinaldo, Grossman, Voracek and Luke Schenn were probably the only things close to bright spots.

Will be interesting to see what management does, and what this team looks like for the next few years.

honestly, i'd love to talk to someone who thinks it's going to be pretty. i haven't heard much of that kind of sentiment anywhere. i think there's a difference between thinking everything is perfect and pretty and declining to throw in the towel on the young players on this team

The following players will be 25 or younger at the start of next season:

Giroux (25), Couturier (20), Rinaldo (23), B Schenn (22), Simmonds (25), Voracek (24), Gustafsson (24) , Lauridsen (24) , L Schenn (23) , Mason (25), McGinn (23)

The following players will be 30 or younger at the start of next season:
Hartnell (30), Read (27), Talbott (30) , Coburn,(28), Grossmann (28), Glasszaros (27) ..

Lots of youth on this team..I want to see what they do with a normal training camp for sure. I expect 2-3 from the 25 or younger and 1-2 from the 30 or younger group to be moved for some more established players or to fill obvious needs. Also they should have another top 10 pick possibly a top 5 pick and they have Laughton and Cousins possibly competing for a spot next season.

This season sucks but I feel better about the future then I do coming out of the 07 season.

And hopefully there is either a new Coach who demands playing the right way, and puts a solid foundation in place. Or Laviolette get's his head out of his you know what and makes the adjustments he needs to make

All that Im saying is I wouldnt be all hyped about about next season because things might not get so peachy.

I hope it works out. Yet I have my doubts. There will likely be no big name signings that the team was able to do after the season that shall not be named. The thing that really made the Flyers boom back in those days was the explosion of Richards and Carter. We will see if Coots and Schenn can do the same.

Nothing blanket about it. It is the goal every year. Not always a realistic expectation. But that is the goal that is set to strive for. Otherwise, why play?

This team needs to find a way to stay healthy if thats even possible.

I dont care who is behind the bench when your missing four starting defenseman its hard to cover that up.

Organizationally, the Flyers absolutely love to bring in these kind of players, or continue to employ them.

I'm not hyped about next season yet.

I will be hyped if they get Jones, McKinnon or Drouin.
I will be hyped if they move some of the youth for a proven number 1.
I will be hyped because I think Giroux will come out like a man possessed this next year. With how bad he has been he is still on pace for 82 points roughly.
I will be hyped to watch Voracek continue what I think is a future all star.
I will be hyped if they replace the coach.

If you go back to that season I believe that Grioux/Voracek is a more dynamic pair than RIchards/Carter but lets call them a wash. This team, on paper , should have more talent and youth than that team.

As for the injuries..If you really think the Flyers take players that are more prone to injury then you are not thinking clearly. Hockey is a rough sport..some players get hurt..it happens.

The Flyers record with injuries either means someone has a voodoo doll.

Or they bring in far too many players with injury questions. Or fail to realise those that are, and put too much responsability on those players. Then wonder where things went wrong.
