I'm talking our organizational depth, NOT guys that will be or are in Buffalo.

If they can't trust guys like Biega, Schiestel or Leduc - guys who have been playing pro all season - TO PLAY A HANDFUL OF GAMES AT THE END OF A MEANINGLESS SEASON over a guy straight from the damn college campus, it says something.

- Powerslave

Justin Schultz says hello. I see McCabe making the jump too.
You need to do a little research before jumping off the ledge. It is more common then you think for College players to make the jump to the NHL.

PS Why is he coming straight from the College Campus? Don´t games get played in an arena?

He has already lost a year. Not playing him for the rest of the season in the NHL wont keep him from "losing a year towards UFA".

It does not go by games played. It goes by games on the active roster. He was on the active roster for 27 games (healthy scratch for a number of games). Therefore, he loses a year off his ELC, which "technically" brings him a year closer to UFA. He will still be an RFA in 2 years.

then is Bob McKensie wrong?

Bob McKenzie ‏@TSNBobMcKenzie 20 Mar
I missed this when BUF sent Grigorenko to QMJHL. Had he played 1 more NHL game (23rd), season would have counted towards free agency.

Bob McKenzie ‏@TSNBobMcKenzie 20 Mar
In full NHL season, 40 GP counts as "year's service" toward 7 req'd for UFA status. In lockout shortened season, it's 23. Grigs played 22.

Bob McKenzie ‏@TSNBobMcKenzie 20 Mar
So while Grigorenko burned 1st year of entry level deal by playing 6 games, this season doesn't count towards service time req'd for UFA.

Correction on last night's tweet re: Grigorenko's year of accrued service. As some pointed out, it's 23 on roster, not 23 GP. My mistake.

Good God, don't tell me I need to do research there, Sabre King. Because you are completely missing my point.

There have been players playing in Rochester ALL DAMN YEAR who are not getting this call up?!?!?!?!?!?!

WHY!?!?!?!?!?!?!

This kid is NOT Justin Schultz. He would have been snapped up immediately. And he wasn't.

Craig Button Craig Button ‏@CraigJButton 20 Mar

1/3. Only person asleep at wheel was me. CBA definition for "Accrued Season" is number of games a player was on active roster. (Cont.)

Craig Button Craig Button ‏@CraigJButton 20 Mar

2/3: Thus Grigorenko & Matteau while not playing 23 games were on team's roster for 23 games & gain 1 accrued season for purposes of UFA.

3/3: Nuance of CBA & I should know better. Learn everyday but I was wrong. @TSNBobMcKenzie wasn't wrong. It was I who was ill informed.

This college kid could have gone to Rochester, while one of their's gets the call up.

Why is this so hard to understand?

It is not about being a "sabres king" just about paying attention to hockey.

Here this will help

Just because they play in Rochester that means they should get a callup???

It is you that is having the hard time understanding.

THE PLAYERS IN THE NHL ARE EITHER NOT NHL READY OR NEVER WILL BE.

YES, PLAYERS JUMP FROM COLLEGE TO NHL ALL THE TIME.

The CBA defines an "accrued season" as games on the active roster, NOT games played. Therefore 27 games on active roster = accrued season. He's lost a year.

I'm willing to bet that Darcy was confused with the CBA language, as McKenzie and some of us are about this whole situation. Thats why he sent Grigorenko back at 22 games played, thinking he was probably safe from an accrued season.
