Agreed, I have center Ice and when the Oil don't play I do try to keep the games on in the back ground but I mostly just follow Van and Edm. Most I pvr and watch while doing work, so your are right. As much as I try to watch ALL the games I only half watch most of them. A lot of my facts come from other bloggers and websites I read in the morning before starting my day. I only write Van and Edm right now. I do the odd NHL article and Sens article but that is about it.

I do know other goalies let in weak goals but I think we can both agree if salary was not an issue and we could just pick a goalie, he would not be in our top 15 choices.

Sure and Stamkos would be on the top line and Weber/Chara would anchor the D.

I think trading Gagner would be one of the dumbest moves the Oil could make right now. Why spend years developing a guy who loves to play here only to trade him when he starts to reach his potential? and for more draft picks to be traded to try and fill the hole trading Gagner leaves?
- abware

I agree, and I don't know who mention Jumbo Joe for Gagner but who ever did need to get a Jumbo Hog Dog and put it you know where.

I said it before Dub is not the number 1 Goalie Oilers need He brings the wrong tools to do his job(just watch Dub commercials)
- AlEx_OiL

Nonsense... 134 games into his career, and he's constantly getting better. If he played for a more defensive team, he'd be considered a stud.

My problem against Horcoff is two fold. 1 his cap hit hinders us if we really want to improve our second line and bring in 2 dmen. Secondly I don't think he is fast enough to keep up with Paajarvi and Hartkinen on what could be an amazing power line. But mostly the cap hit thing.

I agree that another prospect would be fun to watch being called but we need one like we need a hole in the head. We need to improve our second line, our 4th line, our d and debatably our goal tending. Again, to do this we need cap room.

- bsteinley

take another look at your math.
With no buyouts, and even if Kleffbom and Lander play in the nhl, this team has $15,185,000 in cap space for 2013. It won't cost much more than 8 or 9 million to re-sign MPS(2.5),Harti (1.5)and Gags (4.5). Petrell can stay (1.0) and we need a back up goalie and a depth defensemen (2.5).
That leaves us with 4.6 million to spend.

Trade Hemsky for picks.
9.6 million.
Buy out Belanger and Eager
12.4 million.

That gives us lots of cash to upgrade, and if we do that, then the next year Smyth and N.Schultz will be easy to walk away from, and their salaries alone will enough to give cover J.Schultz,RNH and Browns raises.

OK this is maybe the biggest WTF moment I have ever had on this site, at least since reading MJL's thoughts on the lockout.

Also, is it too much to ask that the bloggers here actually know the rules about trade eligibility.

I would only trade Gagner if he deemed expendable. For example, if we got a different center, not necessarily better, but just as good with a different skill set (size,2-way play, etc). No effing way do I trade him for another under developed draft pick.

Yeah, we're mostly just fans, not CBA experts. What rules are we talking about anyway?Ryan O'Rielly? That's about the only player I can think of who isn't eliible to be traded.Unless your talking NMC or NTC's....but those things seem to be waived 90% of the time anyway.

Dude, I started by said it was a dream list for line 4. Tell you what, if Clarkson gets 5 million I will hail you the king. That is the dumbest prediction I have seen in a long time. Cervenka and Stalberg could get that if they were overpaid. This depends on whether they sign quick and who is bought out. Neither are worth that money. Cervenka is good but one year of average points doesn't give him that much unless he signs long term. Stalberg is good by default. Play on the best team and you get points. He is a big guy but only an idiot is paying 3.5 for a bottom 6 player and Feaster has other holes to fill and McGillis has his troubles with Edler and his 2 10 mill in goalie salaries for his 3 guys. The only other idiot is ours, so if he is getting 3.5 you know where it is coming from.

I did say I wasn't serious about the 4th line.

As for Boston's cap. I have to assume they will buy out savard making them at least at 10 mill + cap space. Krejki salary is is 5.25 so they gain cap there and they get another top 6 to replace Horton who is going the UFA route. However again, I threw Boston our there not as a real trade thing, only as an example of a team that could spare a center and is losing a top player and might want a two for 1. I never suggested that was the deal we go for.

You really got to read before you start your calling someone out. It makes you look like an idiot and really its just not cool to hear you on here all the time telling people that they are stupid and yet you offer no real counter suggestion. You seem to just troll the oiler forums and most of us are actually here to shoot ideas around and have a good time.

- bsteinley

I would never give Clarkson 5 mill but that's the number that has been floated around.

As for Boston; Savard is on LTIR so he doesn't even count against the cap. So buying him out buys them nothing.

No one agrees with your ideas...That's why most of us have taken to calling you longbottom.

I'm a realist. Not going to make up some dumb poop. People that think just because they think a deal is doable that it should happen. Get your head out of your ass. You don't have a clue what is actually going on behind the scenes.

This. Though some of his opinions are okay, or at least reasonable. The problem with Bsteinly is that he tries to pass off his opinions as facts, and makes stuff up and tries to elevate his credibility. Like it might make him more attractive to whatever sex his preference is by making a good point on a message board.

Look at Nail, are we positive he is THE go to man for the second line next year? and he was the best pick last year. Whoever we get should take Horcoff's spot if they are NHL ready or 4th line wing like nail did.

The only D man that makes sense is Seth and that is if we really overpay for the first pick or if we win the lottery. Which neither are going to happen. Anyone else won't be ready for at least 2 years and then they won't fit in our line up. We will have Toronto's problem trying to fit Gardiner in.

Smart money is the top 3 going just as predicted. MAYBE Seth slips 1 if the team REALLY doesn't need a dman. But unless those there is some background deals going, those 3 will go as predicted. Aleksander Barkov, Valeri Nichushkin, Darnell Nurse and Sean Monahan are a gamble. Barkov is big but has less points and the same size as Monahan and Barkov played in Finland vs. the OHL. Nichushkin has the "russian factor" which some teams stay away from, especially when they are currently in the KHL and have a contract for next year to play there. Nurse looks to be an amazing two way dman and a good sized one.

This is the range I predict the oilers to pick in. I expect they will take one of these 4 and probably which is left for them. If a team needs a d Nurse will go at any time. Monahan is who the Oilers will want due to their tendancy to pick Canadian players. However they could go out of their comfort zone again and go with a second russian for Nail's benefit. Monahan is the best of the 4. His team is the weakest of the 3 forwards and his points are the highest. He has a good potential to be a force on the team next year and to compete for a spot next year.

If the oilers finish 9th, I would trade down and go for Mantha. Highlights show him as being a complete force. A power forward a 6'4 that puts up big numbers. Maybe trade with columbus by throwing in the oilers second pick and the oiler first pick and grabbing columbus's first pick and last pick in the first round. I think a goal should be emerging goalie Tristan Jarry ranked 45 with a 1.61 GAA for the Oil Kings with Anahiems pick. However there are a lot of maybe's on these and there is the fact that our GM is an idiot.

Plan B's
Elias
Weiss
Zubrus
Cervenka
Antropov
Prospal
Cullen
Piere-Marc-Bouchard

Just off the top of my head. Some better than others. Some play wing and center. All will sign for less than 5.5. Some are big improvements. Antropov might be a downgrade but lets call him plan d.

- bsteinley

Big improvements? Youre (frank)ed!
Weiss is the only one on that list that would be an upgrade but he's a 2nd line C on most teams and will not be cheap. Man....

Last year Tampa traded Kyle Quincy to Detroit for their first round pick and a prospect. As one of many recent examples. Quincy had 26 points they year of the trade and 2 points this year as Detroit made that trade for a player they use as their 5-6 dman.

http://www.tsn.ca/draftcentre/feature/?id=11700

Trade details at the bottom

Gagner is second highest scoring on the second line on Edmonton. He is 23 in his 6th season and just played his 400th game. He has 35 points in 40 games this year.

So yeah, I think he could be worth a first round and a pick. Especially if you look at the UFA list this year.

I am honestly curious as to what YOU think he is worth this year?

- bsteinley

Again spouting off. He's saying if Gags is trade it would be for a roster guy. Not picks.
