No shipping roster players for picks. If we trade hemsky, package him with a second and grab Paul gaustad (or that type of player). We won't get a top 6 or 4 guy for him otherwise it would've happened. Maybe drew stafford straight up?
Trade the other second with our 8th overall (presumably) and move up to get a player we know will be a home run. Has to be a centre. Has to. Barkov or Monahan ideally. Then let him develop in junior for two more years. I wouldn't be mad if we grabbed one of the high end dmen but I really want one of those two guys.
Other option is trade both seconds and maybe a later round pick to get another first of possible and grab gaiuthier or mantha. (I know this may be a stretch) but maybe a team like Calgary or Columbus want more later round picks for one of their firsts. We know Calgary likes it
I'm also okay with moving gagner. What about gagner and marincin to Nashville again for Josi and Colin Wilson.
Thoughts?

I think we all know after RNH, that the Calder isn't coming here if we had the only rookie in the league but it is nice seeing the guys play. Justin has been doing good all season but Nail looks to finish with a bang which will be fun to watch.
I don't think Duby will go anywhere despite his inconsistency. I would like to think they would get a back up like Backstrom or a real starter but I think we all know the reality of this.
I think the best we can hope for now is a good draft spot. Losing Saturday will really help. There are several teams poised to pass us and with our final week being what it is, there is a good chance we could be below 7 in the pick. Which is where the talent seems to start being a gamble.
I am up for the Oilers trading almost anyone. I think Nick has to be on the block only because he has value and for a 5-6 pairing guy, his salary will be high. Streit would be a great temporary fit to give our rookies 3 years. I still like fistric for his size if he is cheap. Better than potter. If we can play Petry, Smid, Schultz, Striet most of the game, our bottom pairing doesn't have to be much be much. Especially the way Petry has emerged these past few weeks.
I don't agree that we HAVE to have size on that second line at the expense of skill. I do agree that they have to stop being fancy with the puck but I wouldn't trade gagner for someone like Bozak just because he is bigger. We need to upgrade as well. Hemsky as well, if we can upgrade him with someone less injury prone, then I am all for it. I think despite what philly fans think, Hartnell is definitely on the block. I also still like Stewart who has been streaky in St. Louis this year. He might be easy to get as he isn't managements favorite.
I think buying out Horcoff might have to be done. He is good and I like him but he is not winning his battles to the puck, his passes are weak, his shots are worse and that third line needs someone with more speed and size to make it a true power line. I still like Ott for it. Bozak would fit here as well.
The fourth line can all go as well as the extras. Brown, smithson, smyth, Petrell, Lander, VanVelde, Eager, Jones, belanger... trade them for anything and sign 3 new ufas from the list. Dream list Clarkson, Stalberg and Cervenka for the 4th line.
We get the money by trading or dumping horcoff and signing Bozak (more points, faster, younger and still good at faceoffs). Then we trade Hemsky and Ganger + for Krejci or some other second line center (Boston just has 6 so I was throwing it out there) and fill Hemsky's spot by Horton or Boyes. Sign Streit, whitney and fistric, then trade potter, whitney, nick and duby for assets to get us lou. Then we sign habby or whoever st louis isn't going to use anymore as our backup.
Or trade boston the dmen and assets and vancouver the forwards/assets. Either way I am sure we could meet their prices. All we have to do is be the best there is during UFA signing. - bsteinley

Columbus won, Dallas winning, Phoenix will win, Detroit losing...
Going to be a tight race down to the wire for 8th.
- Iggysbff
8th?? Your kidding right? This team can only beat AHL teams now- so don't expect to win any more than that...hell I would not be surprised if we even lose tonight-that's how embarrassing this team is at present... |

I know, but the Oilers are recycling their own trash. Howsen and Mac T - hunter3333
That's right- the oilers are (frank)ing inbred - it's sad really-all that money and we bring back old losing ideas... Katz deserves to have a loser team but what he needs most is for fans to stop going to games or buying merchandise Then he might get it... |

1)If one of them deserves it IMO it's Schultz. Yaks is very much a work in progress - I like the kid, but his game needs work. Schultz has been good offensively but what blows me away is that in his rookie season he's literally in the top 10 league for minutes played (1st line minutes for half the season in the AHL, then 1st line minutes for half the season in the NHL). Such an accomplishment. However, no one is going to really care about Edmonton until we start threatening for Cups. No Calder for us.
2)Dubnyk is my favourite Oiler, and I finally made that decision during that Phoenix game. His game also needs a bit of work, but the biggest change that needs to be made is the team in front of him getting better in their own zone. The only things we're doing well in our zone are blocking shots, giving him good looks most of the time, and clearing rebounds. And that's a big improvement over the last couple of years!
3)Ryan Smyth getting old and slow makes me very sad. I wonder if he gets into the old boys club? Some meaningless title like Advisor to the President of Hockey Operations? (first piece of advice - you were a massive jerk for trading me over $100k. Richard.) Or bring him in as a specialist coach of some sort to teach our prospects how to battle along the boards, stand in front of the net, and score in double overtime after getting your teeth knocked out.
I just realized this is probably gonna get long so I'll break it up. - thefullnelson
Schultz has been over his head most of the year and that's managements fault if he regresses because of it... He had no one to play with all year... As for Yaks how can he be considered for Calder when he plays with smyth? Dubnyk has kept in games more than his gaffes cost us... But reality is great goaltenders steal wins- dubey did not steal us many wins...actually the only one I recall is the 2nd last one against Columbus... And yes Smyth should retire tonight after he pads his stats against the AHL flames...

We will get a top 5 pick anyway this team (frank)ing sucks and will be playing teams that are gearing up for the playoffs... They have no chance...except for tonight... |

Ummm...who????
Klefbom and.....?
I'd take Zadorov over Lindholm.
Don't say Marancin. Maybe 5-6 guy. - Iggysbff
Jury is still out on Gernat and Musil, but that will answered in about 5 years.
I agree, Marincin doesn't sound like top 4, from what I've read about his OKC performance...but he's still young. |

Being in the bottom 5 is almost as unlikely as making the playoffs. We'll pick probably exactly where we are right now. |

Trade down in the draft and take Bo Horvat.......the kid is a warrior.Plays 200 feet of ice and is a component missing and very much needed on this team moving forward. |

I wouldn't be least bit suprised to see Eberle traded before all is said and done and this team is a SC contender. In fact, the list of untouchables to me is a lot shorter, only Hall,Nuge,Yak and (maybe) Schultz are on the list. Eberle is at best a 70 point guy when Hall eventually nets 100 points. Not that there's anything wrong with 70 points.Schultz looks to me like another Mike Green, who has to score 70 points because without them he's pretty useless. Not saying Schultz is useless defensively, but he needs to help the offense to maintain his team value. |
