Why does the NHL keep trying to have hockey teams in failed markets? It didn't work before why would it now????
Case in point Atlanta. - cuethenoise
It seems to have worked pretty well in Minnesota and Winnipeg.

Just an FYI. St. Louis was on the brink of being moved in the 80's....how's your team doing now? - stormey
Great and we have been here for 45 years. The potential move was just because the owners (Rolston Purina) wanted out and the new owner wanted to move the team. Not due to a failed market. The NHL vetoed it because St. Louis is a market that works. |

Whats the point of adding another two teams, just kick out one of columbus or the coyotes since its a failed market and bring quebec in for one of them. - Mapleleafs_91
if they are smart about the markets it will be a boon. |

Just so you know Winnipeg is now one of the 10 biggest revenue generators in the league right now. - stormey
That's amazing! Wish nothing but the best for the Jets. I was really happy when they got back to the league....just didn't like the uniform change (even though the new ones aren't that bad).

Quebec would work new arena and strong Canadian $. It pains me to say this since I'm an isles fan. Albeit the chances where slim, until the Brooklyn deal there was a slight chance of relocation.
Panther, Jackets, Yotes, pick one to relocate. If they go to 32 We know they will expand into Ontario as the expansion fee would be huge.
Ontario people, As A outsider I assume a 2nd Toronto team would thrive? Am i correct to assume this, and would the positive affect be enough to potential hurt the Senators and Sabres. Or would a 2nd Toronto team not matter to Buffalo and Ottowa? - guno89
2nd Toronto team wouldn't happen unless MLSE allows it. If MLSE would relent on that, then I don't see there being an issue for Ottawa, but Buffalo might be a little hesitant, but I figure fans of a 2nd Toronto would flock to Buffalo for those games so it might be in their interest to have more guaranteed sellouts.
My guess is expansion. Columbus is a good hockey market, and when the team does well they sellout. Phoenix is the only likely team to move but it's doubtful. With rumours of Quebec wanting a team, and Seattle having an arena for a team I don't see how this is a big problem. 1 West, 1 East.

Not a wise move for the NHL. Not IF but WHEN Quebec separates from Canada their 2 teams will pillage the league for concessions and hold them hostage while threatening to join the KHL. The NHL does not need the burden they will put on them as Quebec continues to do to Canada. If another team is going to Canada, make it in the GTA where maximum revenues will be realized and no future political bull poop to get in the way - cdjaakkola

Look at the new divisions ... Why are Tampa and Florida in the north east division .... Perhaps the relocation of stamkos to Ontario ( Toronto 2 or hamilton ) and huberdeau to Quebec City .... Then the divisions make sense..... Not saying it's going to happen but ... |

Columbus under Kekalainen and with the fan support, should stay.
Phoenix is the most likely to get booted and for good reasons. |

He wanted out because the Team was a money pit. It was almost moved to Saskatoon but you are right the NHL blocked it. However after that they almost contracted.
If you are trying to tell me that they were a money making franchise in the 70's and 80's, you're delusional. |

I just don't see how adding more teams is the solution when the owners just spend the past couple years whining about the financial situation the NHL is in... Kill phoenix and move it to a new market that works don't add any more teams until things are stable. |

I wanna see Canada getting as many teams as possible to even things out a bit.
Montreal Canadiens
Toronto Maple Leafs
Ottawa Senators
Edmonton Oilers
Calgary Flames
Winnipeg Jets
Vancouver Canucks
Quebec Nordiques(?)
Seattle should get a team...would be cool.

I remember the interview I did for our show with Marty Biron back when he was with the Flyers...and asking him what his favorite team was growing up and he didn't hesitate to say the Nordiques...
That settles it then .... Quebec is getting back an NHL team.

There is a great deal of nervousness about the big Cap drop next season, and we are in for a wacky summer of trades because of it...Gaborik was the tip of that iceberg.
- Eklund
you do realize the Big Cap Drop is still going to leave the cap higher than it was 2 years ago, right?

They weren't making money (how many NHL teams actually do make money), but they weren't loosing a ton. The fact is the old chairman retired and the new one had no interest in hockey. |
