Neither is 2012. You know, when the Panthers were struggling so much.

Congrats on learning how to use Wikipedia!
Doesn't change the fact that the Kings are STILL one of the top teams in terms of losing money. EVEN after winning. Kind of sad. Penguins struggled financially 30 and 40 years ago. What team hasn't struggled in that stretch? Hell, the Kings are still struggling. I know it's hard for you to accept. Poor little fella.

Hey. Take a look up at that chart up there. Heck. Go on over to Forbes and tell me who's in 9th, and who's in 10th. Take your time. When your done you can show your self out. Oh and your right. I used wiki. Does that change the facts? No. So again, you can just leave.

Please also keep in mind that those figures don't actually count how many people went to the game. In the NHL, attendance is tickets sold.

So when the Panthers sell blocks of tickets to Blimpie Subs to give away, it counts.

- Atomic Wedgie

The Panthers give away thousands of tickets to each game to help boost these figures. This is the first year in a long, long time where they are even close to being middle of the pack among "attendance." All you have to do is watch a Panthers game on TV to see how empty the arena is.

What I have never understood is why fans care about the lack of financial success of other teams.

Yes, the Panthers can't draw flies. As a Leafs fan, that's probably a good thing for me now that they will be in the same conference next year. Lack of financial success will (in theory, at least) give them a lesser chance of fielding a team capable of making the playoffs.

If the Panthers are in the league, my Leafs play 82 regular season games a year.

If they fold, my Leafs will play 82.

If they relocate, my Leafs will play 82.

So really, why would I care if they are averaging 8,000 fans a night?

- Atomic Wedgie

I'd pin the last two lock-outs on the struggling teams, at least in part.

The NHL has a few permanently unsustainable teams that they insist on trying to make financially stable.

As a bragging rights thing, though? No, it doesn't really make sense.

I was hoping you hadn't done enough research to say something like this!
The article goes on to say:

"While Los Angeles ranked tenth in our most recent NHL team valuations, the team was actually losing money and had a seventh-worst debt-to-value ratio of 66%."

Take your time and re-read that again. I know it's hard to understand. You can just leave, smart guy.

I think what's got people hooked here is that fans of teams who aren't successful financially (or at least aren't perceived to be) are asserting that it would be foolish to expand to markets that they deem to be unviable, all the while asserting that their own teams are in fact viable.

However, no one seems to be able to point out - or defend - this dis-congruence without making personal attacks. Mission accomplished Ek!

Once the Quebec People separate and enslave the Anglos, that arena will go up in no time.

Just an FYI. St. Louis was on the brink of being moved in the 80's....how's your team doing now?

The Quebec people are a motivated people. But we have yet to fully understand the Quebec people. It is rare to see the Quebec people in their natural habitat for extended periods of time. Scientists are still trying to fully understand a lot of the Quebec people's habits and patterns.

This would be an interesting time for an expansion draft.

With so many cap-strapped teams, I wouldn't be surprised to see the likes of Birere, Luongo, Hemsky, Markov and others on the 'unprotected' list. Good names in any case.

"Every one of the NHL’s 30 teams would be hurt by a lockout next season, but Florida and Los Angeles are the two most in need of continued play. The two teams are up against some of the NBA’s most popular franchises, and they play in warm weather climates where hockey has traditionally been a difficult sell. A lockout would theoretically make the NHL more profitable for team owners, but for Florida and Los Angeles, it would completely erase two success stories long in the making."

That's where you got your little quote from. It was taken out of context. I'll ask you a question. Take as much time as you need to answer. Ready? Here goes.

How many time have the penguins been in danger of relocating or bankruptcy?
