Of course there is...but what i said is that in the Eastern conference today there are no clear cut favorites in the first round except the Pens with Crosby.

That was Nay's argument.

1. It was cynical.

2. It's true that it's the only way his stats would be Vezina-worthy.

3. That did not really happen on Saturday.

Montreal-Boston 2008 comes to mind.

Habs won all 8 games in the regular season, series went 7 games.

right but my point is that the regular season domination didn't carry over.
the two teams played much, much closer hockey over those 7 games.

First 8-seed to win; only 2nd team since 1995 I think to win without starting the playoffs with home ice advantage.

Boston in 2011 was the first team to ever win after being taken to 7 games in the first round. Anything can happen.

I think you're buying into the cliché that coaches and players spit out at the beginning of the players however - and to be clear, I have never coached a professional sports team so I might be just imagining this - I am quite certain that events having unfolded during the regular season between two teams have a very strong impact on decisions that are made during the playoffs both on and off the ice.

Or pick any of the Ottawa/Toronto series, when Toronto would win most/all head-to-head games during the regular season, only to lose to the Sens in the playoffs.
