Keith isn't the problem, how he and the other powerplay guys are used is the problem.
5 on 5 the Hawks generate all kinds of chances and make the opponent look like they are shorthanded, why? Because they move the puck and the players around, cycle the puck, defencemen open lanes by skating to create the opening. The powerplay suddenly becomes static, players are rooted in specific spots, defencemen trying to shoot through people.
Simple solution is use the same approach on the PP as they do 5 on 5. In 2010, Keith was more dynamic skating into openings, creating openings, switching off his partner for one times fronm his strong side. Look at those tapes, the answer lies between what they currently do 5 on 5 and how they used to run a powerplay in 2010. - paulr
They need shots on goal and for the most part this season Keith has been a problem. He has played better of late and his shooting pct is higher than earlier but still less than 5%....Cup yr was about 8%.....signiificantly higher.
The teams with the best power play generate shots....many come from the point because basically the points are left open in today's NHL....
I agree with the crux of what your saying but the Hawks make the powerplay more complicated than it needs to be. |

Road warriors! The goal differential is just crazy. They need a little Mojo at home, but with a road line like that it gives me hope in the playoffs. Gotta be able to steal some at the oppositions barn.

Carlos Quintin is an assbag and should have battery charges filed against him. He's Todd-Felon-Bertuzzi on a baseball field. It's 'tards like him that screw up pro sports. I sincerely hope he takes a 4-seamer in the face. J@g. |

What the Hawks need is to keep things more simple at home and then they will be a very difficult out in the playoffs. |

Quentin has no business charging people after getting hit. If you don't want to get hit get off the plate......

The Wings are going to be coming out guns blazing. Babcock will have them ready to play. They are not what they once were, but this is still a very scary team. When you have the best coach in the NHL and 13 and 40, they could make a playoff run. Detroit scares me as a first round matchup. This season has been incredible to watch, don't think for a second the Wings wouldn't love to ruin our party the first week of May if they get in as the 8th seed. I know they have to get in, but if they do all I have to say is the Hawks better be ready. |

Ok, I am going to say this again, and it still doesn't feel right.

As much as it pains me to say that, it gives me more joy with the possiblity of Detroit missing the playoffs.
Even better would be an Epic Collapse by the Blues. |

It was the 3rd time Q was hit by Greinke...i don't blame him for charging. Enough's enough.

He wants to get hit. Thought I heard today on 670 The Score he's the several season active leader in HBP's. There's one thing to crowd the plate, take the hit and your base. There's another in playing WWF in a situation that was clearly not an intentional throw-at or retaliatory pitch.
I believe in karma and hope he gets a 4-seamer in the face one day. F(u)ck you Carlos. If there's ever a "match penalty" type of play in baseball, last night was it.
I'm not a Greinke fan or even a Dodgers fan. But enough is enough. The only way pr!cks like this get it is if they feel the pain of a payback for years to come. |

Actually the Hawks have oversimplifyed the powerplay to a point it is very easily stopped because there is little to no movement other than perimeter passing. Keith's lack of shot percentage is a direct result of the static nature of the pp. He used to do a give and go with the forward playing the wall with him onetiming a shot from the high slot, don't see that any more. Just see a bunch of passes and he tries to shoot standing still from the exact same place on the point. |

I learned my lesson early in 2007... in the NFL. Saw Chargers, Colts, Ravens and Patriots in the AFC divisional round. I reasoned 7 ways of Sunday why the Bears would rather see the Colts, than any of the other three teams. How'd that work out? Ask Rex-is-my-quarterback-Grossman. - blackhawk24
I'm not so worried about who we match up against, but I'd like to see some other key matchups: Blues vs Kings and Ducks vs Sharks. Both matchups are very likely and 2 good teams would be knocked out. I think the Sharks could upset the Ducks in a 7 games series. The Blues/Kings series could go either way.
Edit: if the playoffs started today it would be Van/STL and LA/SJ. There could be an upset or 2 there as well. |

That would be great. But I don't see san jose falling to 7 or 8. I see them getting vancouver, though, which would also be great. I can see the ducks get the wild |

Keeping it simple in my reference is about generating scoring opportunities by shooting the puck on net....Not 6 -7 passes and then a forced shot.
There are no shooting lanes because no team fears the player who shoots the puck most often from the point....and that is Keith.
A good power play enables point men to come almost up to the top of the circles to shoot....Not as you say, by standing still at the blueline.
There are many reasons why this hasn't happened and the best power plays don't only score on backdoor passes.
Not having a strong net front presence many times makes things more difficult too. |
