Wayne Gretzky was a disaster as a head coach.
- buffalofan19

Gretz had zero experience when he became a coach in the NHL. Roy went to Jrs to learn and work his way up.

I honestly don't get the obsession with a guy who has no experience coaching at even the AHL level. There's a difference between coaching boys and coaching men, and Patrick Roy has yet to even try that. There have to be better options out there.
- buffalofan19

He's a big name. End of story.

Again. Coaching boys versus Coaching Men. It's apples and oranges. It's the same reason most college football/basketball coaches don't end up being very good professional coaches, and vice versa. It's not about their ability as a player or even their demeanor. It's about the ability to get through to a different group of people.

His championship rings are in his ears, he can't hear you...

I hope you guys get a top pick in the draft. Your Sabres are going through what Montreal went through last year. A quick turn around is possible! Keep your head up and hopefully your fortunes change next year
- Habsolute009

The Habs got healthy and got better. It will take the Sabres longer to rebuild. But they have Armia, Larson, to a lesser degree feakorenko and a wealth of draft picks. But, well see. Can't wait for playoff hockey to see who is who this year.

At least share your opinion on why? Conacher got most of his points with stamkos/st louis.

since then hes been incredibly average. and clearly tampa bay agreed trading him away while his value was sky high.

Roy could be great. Most people in Buffalo just hear the name and want to hire him.

Don't hang your heads its only 48 games we had 82 of it last year and look at the habs about how fast it can then around. Ott is a keeper he cares and myers cares too blocking pk slapshots shows that. Stafford though get rid of him he was just going through the motions its about getting rid of that kind of guy and that mindset.

Well i guess there is something to be said for out and out winning. Will he translate it to an NHL coach? Hmm, not sure, who else is available?...

got healthy and their rookies are playing big, plus they added some sandpaper with Prust, Bouillon and to a lesser extend Armstrong.

oh, and the new management/coaching staff....brought a new energy to the team

Thank you saving me from absolute depression.

I wanted to ask Havs fans at the game tonight if they saw the absolute lack of effort by buffalo. I didn't bother because they really aren't there to critique us, but get drunk and watch their team.

I saw that coming about as well as you would if you see it next year, i was/am cautiously optimistic, but waiting for the bottom to fall out too, playing way over their heads, no business even being close to what they are playing like, i figured at best fighting for the last playoff spot...

Very few Sabres had a good game. Flynn is a keeper.

think you guys could do well with Dallas Eakins, coach of the Marlies lol.... he has a contract loophole that lets him sign an nhl deal in the offseason

A big part of it was also the change in the management team, big difference between the "ghost" Gauthier & Bergevin. Also, Therrien is a much different coach then his last stint in Montreal and MUCH different then Martin. I really do hope your Sabres gut the management team.
