I've had my eye on him since his play in Columbus(always looking for fantasy D-men). He can be pretty shakey at times both with & without the puck. I think his ceiling is a Matt Carle. I'm interested in Jamie McBain as far as a trade. And Ian White and Mark Steit as UFA's. While I would not turn down a realistic trade for Yandle I wonder if we could make a smaller trade for Rundblad. Maybe Laugton instead of Coots.
- flyler

Streit will probably want a three deal.
If the Flyers want him they might give him that which is a little scary with his age being 35.

McBain would be great, probably expensive.

I can't see them giving up the ransom Phoenix is asking for Yandle.
from Friedman's article earlier:

"I don't believe Phoenix got any offers that really made the Coyotes consider trading Keith Yandle. They want two forwards, including a centre who can go face-to-face with the Kopitars, Sedins, Thorntons and Getzlafs of the Pacific Division. They also understand that Yandle is a great skater and passer who can play a long time because he never gets hit. You don't give that away without a reason."

Ian White is a possibility. Not sure what happened in Detroit with him, maybe he was expected to play a bigger role and couldn't handle it. He would bring more mobility then they have currently.

The guy I like is Tanev in Van. Mobile, poised with the puck, right handed.
They wouldn't trade him in all likelihood.

Can someone clarify this for me:
A friend of mine is one of those "Bryz Sucks" guys; not his best quality. As the Flyers go, he's the typical WIP overreactor. His idea is to buy out Bryz, not because he's bad, but because we'll be absorbing his cap hit if he retires or is traded/retires because of the cap recovery rule or whatever it's called.

I was under the impression that Bryz, Richards, and Carter don't qualify for that because they were signed before that rule was implemented. Can someone shed any light on that?

- jmatchett383

I think you're thinking of the potential disaster over the Richards and Carter contracts, which originally seemed to be a liability for the Flyers under the cap recapture rule. While we won't be subject to that if they retire, we will be if Bryz retires.

Yes, that's it, the cap recapture rule. Why would we suffer it for Bryz, as his contract was signed before the new CBA enacted it, but not for Carter?

Same goes for my guy, John Carlson, American Hero. I'd probably give up a small ransom for him.

We're not on the hook for Frick nor Frack because they've been traded. The original wording suggested we'd be on the hook for them because they signed the contract with us.

So would LA be on the hook if they traded them? Also, we'd be LESS on the hook if we traded Bryz, correct?

The goalie roulette that Lavi plays is frustrating, but this year he's been consistent thankfully. Not that he had much choice until they acquire mason. I don't think it mattered much who was in net on Tuesday. The only reason I see to play mason a lot down the stretch is if they are seriously considering buyin out Bryz, otherwise, I wouldn't change up how they've been playing Bryz too drastically. Not that there are many games left to do that anyway.

Would've liked to have seen Homer take over behind the bench after 3/18, personally.

True, but I'm note sure he had a lot to do with the Devils only allowing 27 shots against per game (tied with LA for 4th lowest).
- jmatchett383

Shot totals are routinely under-reported in New Jersey.

Not sure, to both questions. The only understanding I have is that, if Bryz stays and retires early, we'll carry the cap savings we enjoyed, similar to a buyout or bonus overage.

Love Carlson. Trading a first round pick (not this year) + a good prospect, even that is probably not enough.

Those are the kind of young defenseman that teams don't trade.

The kid on the Islanders Hamonic is another one.

The way I read the rule, is that because L.A. acquired them prior to January, they would not be on the hook for any cap recapture penalties.

Teams are on the hook for any deal longer than 7 years that they received and cap savings on after the new CBA was agreed to. When the deal was signed is immaterial. If Bryz retired, the Flyers are on the hook.

I'm going to the game tonight and am not excited. Excited about watching a hockey game, but I'm leaving my heart home. Treating it like when I take M4 to high school games at the Skate Zone.

Correct. If the player didn't play for a team after new CBA there's no recapture.

That's great, I didn't see that yet. Taken in that exact context, it's a complete Richard move by Bryz.

Ok, so I did a quick looksee at the cap recapture thing, and here's what capgeek offers:

Teams receiving a “cap advantage” from long-term contracts — defined as seven years or more for contracts signed prior to the January 2013 CBA — will be penalized in the event the player retires or “defects” from the NHL before the contract expires. A team receives a “cap advantage” when the player’s actual salary exceeds his cap hit in a given year.

Following retirement/defection, the “advantage” will be “recaptured” and charged against the club’s cap in equal amounts each year until the contract expires. This penalty applies to any team that received a cap advantage from the contract — ie. a traded contract — except in the event that the trade occurred prior to the new CBA coming into place in January 2013.

So, if I'm understanding this correctly, if we trade Bryz and he retires early, we'll be on the hook for the cap benefit recaptured?

What do you think about Clitsome from Winterpeg?
That guy plays pretty good against the Flyers, I don't watch him much otherwise.

Yes. If Bryz was traded they're on the hook for one year worth of cap savings

That's how I'd feel. I'll probably still tune in, but at this point I feel like it'll be a detached experience, as if it weren't a Philly team playing.

Sigh.

I think what it means is that we're on the hook since he wasn't traded prior to that (so LA is on the hook for Richards & Carter). I went on there and they have a calculator. Basically, if we did trade him, we carry the bulk of the penalty, but not all of it. However, that's the best reason to amnesty him I've seen; if he retires in 2019, we'd have an $8.1M cap hit.
