This is beyond obvious a question you are using to get me in a long winded, boring debate. If you need proof that's fine. I understand. Debate away

I personally like to know Keaners and or UIF take on this. Even the canadienpenguin ref??

But for fun.... Cappy had a winning record for the 3 seasons he was in Bridgeport.

Bourne only played 16 games for him.

Bourne is upset with Cappy for ending his career...

But in reality... I would fire him in a heartbeat!!!

Don't need too, that's what the press gets paid to do. Read Justin Bourne's last interview where he described Capuano as the most undisciplined coach he's ever played for and described every game as a free for all.
- Cptmjl

i saw bourne play alot...no coach in the world could help him.. cappy isn't an X and O guy.. i think weight and thompson are helping a ton...i could care less right now whatever is going on its working

My opinion is this team is playing well in spite of Capuano to an extent...

Should we fire him @ the end of the year?
- jimmc7722

I guess every coach looks good when a team is winning and bad when it's losing, right? But, just my opinion, this is still the same guy who never breaks up a line except for the ones that are working (we still only see Cizikas, Martin and McD in brief spurts for whatever reason), still gets schooled in the matchup department...just seems to roll lines out there with no regard for the score, who the opposition has out there, etc., leaves goalies in way after it's clear they just don't have it on a given night...and pulls them well after such a move might have mattered wrt momentum.

At least there seems to be a message now that players are buying into, so that's good. I said earlier on that the players believe they can win, and that can overcome a lot of things...a roster that maybe could use some more talent at given positions, some poor in-game decisions, etc. I guess if Cappy is partly responsible for instilling that mindset in the players, then sure, that's one thing he's doing well.

You are right, Cappy will prob get the extension (and he is like a puppet for Wang/Snow, so he fits the bill)

But Weight and Thompson are the ones motivating this team... along with the players.

- Bags502

Sorry but the whole puppet thing is so overused at this point. None of us really have any idea just how influential any of these guys are on eachother.
While I expect Cappy to get something like a 2 year extension, I'm afraid that's more bad news than good. Sure the team has pulled together and is doing well, but we've seen enough oddball decisions cost us points this year to the point that I can't help but think we'd already be in 5th were it not for him.

That said, in a results oriented business/position, they're going to have to give him an extension, right?

Of course I cheer for the San Diego Chargers, the same team that released a coach after a 14-2 season

Not for nothing but if you think Capuano is the guy getting this team going you must be high. I put it more on the players and the other coaches behind the bench. That being said I am glad we are winning. If we make the playoffs we will say what type of coach Cappy is. Also because of this Cappy will get an extension
- kasperrko

hahahah...that may be true. it may not be true. i certainly dont know and id bet tons of money you dont either but its total speculation as to who is "responsible" for this motivation...but your blind hatred for people just based on the fact that youve previously hated them is nothing short of hilarious.

You are right i dont but I am not going to judge Cappy on 48 games. Where would this team be after 82 games if it was a full season?? If he can get these guys to the playoffs after 82 games Iw ill give the guy credit, but I amnot going to go goo goo ga ga over 48 games.
- kasperrko

you are judging him though...

Weight is the one who is screaming and yelling at these guys in the locker room. He is the motivating force here. Cappy has not done that in the two years he has been here so I dont expect him to all of a sudden get it now
- kasperrko

All that and maybe, KO & JB are playing a little closer to what was expected/projected and others are getting better with age, as they should...but def don't think Cappy has much in the motivational dept...nice guy & all, didn't say I wouldn't go fishing with the guy but I have little doubt if JT or Nabby went down, this team would spiral out of control and that clueless look on cappy's face would re-surface like it did so many times last year and early on this year. I think the players really believe in JT and themselves, finally. They're not all the way there, yet but getting closer...

Overall, I have to look at Cappy in the same light as Snow. Inexperienced, but learning on the job. I'm hopeful that like any developing player, Cappy will learn from his mistakes and get better. If I'm to choose two big mistakes he's made, I'd have to say his choice in line matchups and inconsistency in how he deals with specific players efforts would be my biggest gripe. Just once, I'd like to see Cappy himself take some blame for a flat effort.

Obviously the team 'system' is a bit of an issue too though when dealing with a young inexperienced team, the system can often look more disorganized than it should be. It certainly looks a bit more controlled now than it did a month ago.

I'm willing to bet even Arbor was a much better coach after 3-4 years in the NHL than he was when he first came in. I'm not saying I'm majorly confident that Cappy will become a great NHL coach, or even good for that matter, but I do have to believe that he'll be humble enough to know when something isn't working and needs to be rethought.

What we do know is that when Cappy took over this team from Gordon, they performed much better for the remainder of that season. Last year was a bare bones team with young inexperienced impact players. This year, we've gotten better simply based on those players getting older/wiser. How much of this success can be attributed to Cappy is difficult to say, but the bottom line is we're now within reach of 5th place...it's hard not to give him kudo's for that when considering our predicted finish.

justin bourne has played 16 career games with bridgeport...why does he have any credibility...AND that was in the 07-08 season, that was 5-6 years ago...its possible cappy has picked up a thing or two.

dont get me wrong, i dont love cappy as a coach...but to knock him when the team is ripping it up is bush league and looks silly.

no way they earn the 8 points MORE required than NYI/NYR/Ott all at 44 points. Season OVER Philly. NJ one or two losses from the brink as well. NJ can win tomorrow tho, thanks.

I dont hate the guy at all but we all know this guy is not a head coach. He might be a great assistant coach but not head coach.

Lets face it if Wang had the money and ran this team like an NHL team trust me JAck Capuano would not be here at all and we would not have this conversation

i dont think hes a great coach...i just think its silly to knock any aspect of the islanders right now considering they are one of the hottest teams in the league.

and to your 2nd point, just because a coach gets paid a lot of money doesnt make him a better coach...

Its not the nice guy, Or that he is a bad coach, he needs to surround himself with teachers for these young players. Speciallists in specific areas. PK, PP and 5 on 5 would be good.
