Only if the Islanders win. If the Rangers win, I never want to hear about it again.

This is what most teams think.....it's all Tavares. Let them think that as Baileys line is tearing it up. Bottom line, win or lose this is a different isles team. The rangers haven't seen this isles team......it's not gonna be a fluke if the isles win. We roll 4 lines and all four can score.

they did last season and could've this season if we had a training camp to properly prepare a team and get everyone on the same page that has over 50% new forwards from last season.

No the problem was marion gaborik right? Looks like he doing mighty fine in columbus. Rangers Have Lundquist. thats it. Without him, you guys would be dead last in East.

you say we only Tavares. Have you been watching your team last 10 games. Does anyone other than nash score?

Enjoy that while you can because I can only imagine how much a game will cost at the Barclays Center.

I agree, I was offering low 200 seats for 75 a seat. In barclays its going to be $200 a seat to sit with those site lines.

I keep thinking we need 6th but I'm a little afraid of the Caps right now and I don't think the Jets have a shot at taking the division if Ovi stays as hot as he is and he probably will.

I think if I had to pick right now I'd agree that Montreal is our best bet. I don't trust Price, Fluery can either completely suck or be totally unbeatable and Rask is (in my view) the top goalie in our conference.

As long as we're not in 8th I think we have a good shot at making a bit of a run. I don't think the Pens will be stopped this year by anyone especially when Sid comes back.

Not sticking up for the Ranger fans but if our tandem was DiPietro and Poulin we'd be dead last too. Other things play a factor and the Islanders have a much more well rounded team than the Rangers do but the same goes for both teams. Without the goaltending both teams are lottery teams. The difference is that I'd trust Sather to go out and get someone if Lundquist was gone. Snow would make do with the prospects and the life long Islander.

Way more well rounded? The Rangers are having a disappointing season from several players and are still right there with the Isles, who for the most part, are overachieving. I won't say the Isles are made up of one superstar, although he is in fact one of the best players in hockey, but I think if you look at both teams fairly you see that each have talent at several positions.

Rangers defense, when healthy, is better on paper than the Isles. Isles have more scoring depth, this season, than the Rangers and both have two proven goalies. Lundqvist is better but Nabokov has been really solid this season.

All in all if you discredit the Rangers, based on how few reliable scorers they have this season and pump up your team because of the fact they have only a mere two more points than them, you are not doing your homework.

The Rangers can be a dangerous team if they start to put the puck in the net with regularity. Tonight's game should be a good contest.

I think you might have forgotten what everyone was saying just a few months ago.

Like every year, the Rangers were untouchable. The best in the east. Record breaking numbers. Can't lose. Best ever. 48 and 0.

The Islanders, like every year - lottery team, terrible, joke, worst in the league.

Now lets look at where the two teams are and compare. Both proved everybody wrong. The Rangers, like usual, are touted as the best team in the history of the game before the season starts, then they end up being terrible.

The Islanders, like usual, are touted as the worst team in the league but this year they've proved everyone wrong.

The Islanders have 13 players with 10 points or more and 2 more with 9.

The Rangers have 9 players with 10 points or more then they drop down to 6.

The Rangers have a backup that's at .500

The Islanders backups are 1 and 5.

If the Islanders have a backup that's .500, they are right on the heals of Boston.

The Rangers have the fourth highest payroll in the league.

The Islanders are third from the bottom and that includes Tim Thomas. Without Thomas they are the lowest payroll in the league.

And who is having a disappointing season for your team?

Nash is playing at a point a game.

Richards is 23 in 38

Clowe has produced more in the 5 games with you than he did the whole rest of the season.

Callahan is keeping pace with every other season he's had.

You traded one of your top 3 players.

I don't get it. Your team is the one that's arguably over achieving, not the Islanders. Are you saying that you need Stu Bickel to get 40 points a year? Does Pyatt need to be a point a game player?

What is it?

You proved nothing, what pundits say has little to do with what actually happens. Your point is also highly hypocritical; in one hand you say the Rangers were everyone's favorite and in the other you say they are overachieving.

Which is it?

And my point that the Isles are overachieving this season is based on where most thought this team would end up. Can you going honestly say you saw the Islanders playing for a playoff spot this season? What evidence made you think this team would be this competitive? Full credit to the team for being where they are but coming off a terrible season and not doing much to improve the team, besides bringing in Visnovsky, where would seeing the Isles making the playoffs be a logical estimation?

Again, I am not discrediting the Islanders, good for them to be in this position. It's just funny to me how superior you think your team is to the Rangers meanwhile if the Rangers win tonight, they are in the driver's seat by comparison.

Simpler than that, my friend- if the Isles didn't sh*t the bed twice against Carolina and once against Buffalo, they'd have six more points, and they'd have Poulin playing goal tonight to give Nabokov a rest. This is my second argument, other than a commitment to defense- you CANNOT lose against cr*p, EVER.

Cr*p is where your points MUST come from, because if they play Boston in Boston 8 more times, they MIGHT win 2 or 3. You have to win the games you MUST win. This is why it looks good for us- one home game against Florida, and finish with three away against Carolina, Philly and Buffalo. That SHOULD BE 8 more points, and if it is, we're in, no matter what happens this evening.

Because we have a bunch of young players we all knew COULD BE good, we just didn't know if and when- turns out most of them are, and when is NOW. Here's the scary thought- MOST of our young talent isn't even HERE yet. This is our first shot at even making the dance- now that we'll have a REAL building to play in, we're going to be around for a LONG time. That said, we're not superior to anyone- and I expect to see hard work every night, or else they'll go right back down the cr*pper. I just hope someone keeps on them about that, at least for a couple of more weeks. This team needs to learn what the playoffs are like, and the sooner the better, IMO.

That said, to me, YOUR team should be A LOT better than it is. I can't believe Gaborik was the whole problem- other than Nash, they've been very mediocre. It just seems that on the offensive side of the coin, they haven't had enough support for line one, which is one of the two problems we had earlier in the year. Nash, Stepan and Callahan have OVER 40% of their goals, and 47% without Gaborik. We were the same earlier in the year (though for us, it was expected), but even we are down to about 37% from the top line.

That will have to change if they want to win in the playoffs- the positive for them is that they play playoff hockey all year. The negative is that if your first line is the only one that can score, that makes it too easy on the other team, even if they suck defensively. I still think they're good, but they're going to have to pick it up soon.

PS- as for the other team in the area, I watched them last night- they simply don't pay the price to score goals. Simply do not. They're like we used to be- they out shoot the other team 85-10, and lose 2-0, because their shots come from the next ZIP code, and no one stands in front of the opposing goalie.

The Islanders do have a bright future, as long as Poulin or Koskinen can develop into a top flight goalie. If not, when Nabokov gets too old to remain effective, the Isles do have a deep prospect pool to dip into and acquire a top net minder.

The Rangers aren't without prospects waiting in the wings, either. The current team is having a down year, due to several players underperforming. All in all, both teams should be competitive for years down the road. Let's hope, for each fan base, that this is the start of a classic rivalry renewed.

You are 100% correct. I remember watching those games against Carolina and thinking that the season was done. And it would have been if they continued to play the way they were back then.
