Im hoping to take a golf trip to BC one of these days...dad just got back and had some pictures of a few courses he played in the mountains....just beautiful!
- Colin Dambrauskas

There's a course about halfway between Whistler and Vancouver called Fury Creek - it's probably old hat now, but it had just opened when I was living out there.

Anyhoo, first 9 holes are in the mountains. Tenth tee on the mountain, and you launch your ball off the mountain, with the fairway and green below. Back nine holes are all on the flats around the Burrard Inlet.

Good times.

I would have guessed far more than that in Ontario.

That's exactly what my point is. Everyone assumes the game is more expensive, especially for kids, than it really is. Especially when you compare the costs to pretty much ANY rep team sport.

Nice!

I used to play a lot when I lived out west in the prairies and they had some interesting courses within all the valleys etc....made it challenging at times.

UGH! Golfing with women (in my experience) is such a painstaking process that always leaves me wayyy to drunk. If I've golfed with 100 women, 98 of them take between 3-600 strokes just to match each of my and the other guys shots. What happens then? I sit and drink and drink and drink and drink.

I'm not sexist I swear. I just like a rate of play faster than the 401 at 530pm.

- markmark

I don't golf with women for this exact reason. I'll take my girl to the driving range, but taking her out for 18?? Thats a colossal waste of either 10 hours, or a waste of money as they quit after 2 holes from getting so frustrated.

My wife likes to come along to "sun tan" between holes. Costs 65$ for her to walk around with me, complain, and sun tan.

...only have myself to blame for teaching her and buying her clubs

You do see what I'm trying to do right?

An intricate pre-emptive master plan I have concocted.

With a highly possible Leafs/Habs matchup, I predict bodies, bans, and limbs will be flying aplenty.

So with braidan and the Bruce N' Juice Connection already tucked firmly in my back pocket, all I need to do is kiss yours and Howard's ass immensely so that I may, just may, be one of the phoenixes that rise from the ashes.

Then again, I can see this all blowing up in my face.

Get your kids into the game if you can. In Johnny Miller's book ('I Call the Shots'), he has a great passage about how to hook a kid into the game. I'm paraphrasing, but he says the first time is the most important: rent a cart, drive around, let your kid (age 4 or 5) hit balls into a stream, chase after frogs, etc., just have fun, basically, and the key is to leave before the kid wants to. They will always want to go back. It worked like a charm with my son. You basically have to forget about your own game for a few years when you go with your kids, but it is totally worth it. Now, my son is hooked on the game. I'm going to work on my daughters now (ages 4 and 6).

My daughter just turned 10 - took her to a driving range last summer and she killed it. She was so excited and into it that she was in her back swing as I frantically tried to place a ball on the tee as she began her downswing - thought I'd lose a hand. Signed her up for summer camp this year. Kid frustrates me though - really good at so many things but gets bored in no time and bails out.

Whenever I golf with Mrs. Wedgie, it's the exact same routine:

We get paired up with a couple of guys. One of them will eventually notice that Mrs. Wedgie is not moving to the "forward tees" (don't call them the "ladies' tees", or Mrs. Wedgie will take a divot out of your crotch with a wedge).

So the guy will politely (or sometimes not so politely") say something along the lines of "Ummmmm, the red tees are up there...." to which Mrs. Wedgie will look at him cooly and reply, "I'm perfectly fine right here, thank you."

Both guys will roll their eyes, and mentally prepare themselves for a seven hour round.

So when she lines up for her opening drive, I don't watch her - I watch their reactions. Because Mrs. Wedgie can pound the ball (feel free to make juvenile remarks about that line, yeah). Blammo!

Thing is, she's not a great golfer - but she really can whack it with her driver.

Always funny to see the look on the guys' faces - and they will usually say something as we walk down the first fairway which amounts to a "sorry I thought you were a poope golfer."

Golf is a great game to learn as a kid. When I have kids, I'll test them out to see if they like it. Can really teach patience to a kid. Good for working on hand eye, and it gives the kids a break from hockey. Don't wanna have them doing hockey 24/7. Hockey for the winter, but golf and lacrosse for the summer!

Its a goddamn sport....any of you go play 18 holes of golf, walking, and shoot under 90.

It would be a sport if they used a metal ball and someone had to keep it from going into the hole with no padding.

We have some amazing golf around here. I would love to play the black. I wanted to try it after the open a couple of years ago. Just to be totally humbled ny the course.

Leaf themselves out of the playoffs and Oiler themselves into the first overall pick again they did.
