I believe that JT is going to be an elite player. But like all elite players, the last part of their game to develop is play without the puck. Thats the way it is. Even as an Islanders fan you can not possibly believe that part of his game is good. It will be eventually and he will be downright scarey. - yttrohs
it isn't the best part of his game your right..but i wouldn't call him a bad defensive player..average would be a better word... |

Why did you delete the comment about how bad of a defender Kadri is. Realize how stupid that statement was..... |

If the Isles make the playoffs Tavares (who, despite the all-telling +/- stat, is very good defensively) deserves consideration. I'd think 3 of Tavares, Crosby, Ovechkin, Lundqvist, and Kadri get nominated. And by Kadri, I mean Getzlaf.
Also, it's a travesty Quick wasn't even nominated last year. If he wasn't pitching shutouts or 1-goal games, no way the Kings would have made it. |

Post Lockout Hart Trophy winners:
2005-06 Joe Thonrton - 1st in points
2006-07 Crosby - 1st in points
2007-08 Ovechkin - 1st in points
2008-09 Ovechkin - 2nd in points
2009-10 Henrik Sedin - 1st in points
2010-11 Corey Perry - 3rd in points
2011-12 Malkin - 1st in points
Being one of the best, if not the best, offensive player in the league almost always plays into winning the Hart, especially post lockout. |

kadri plays sheltered minutes, mostly on the 3rd line. never plays against the other teams top players (forwards or d-men)
he has no business in the hart trophy conversation......... - sensarmy_11
Other than Karlsson. Name 1 player you wouldnt trade straight up for Kadri right now. We all need a laugh. |

You must have a list of excuses to back up your excuses when your excuses are proven to be nothing more than that.
I think you're still butthurt over the 5-0 thrashing and Kadri hatty a couple of weeks ago. He sure looked Hart Trophy nomination worthy that game didn't he?
Where's that picture of the Emperor saying I feel the butthurt flowing through you when you need it? |

You know what your problem is Eklund, you watch a few teams and you make all these judgements based off those games and ignore everything else. If Tavares didn't play against Philly you wouldn't even mention this. |

come on now.......logic has no business in this conversation.
we all know that after a good 30 game stretch (it only took 4 years) kadri is now the greatest hockey player on the face of the planet. |

Well your first excuse for him not being nominated was that he's poor defensively. When it was pointed out that he's a + 19 and that was shot to poop you came up with the excuse that he's sheltered with his minutes and doesn't play against other teams' top lines.
It sounds to me that you're just hating on him because of the jersey he wears. |

I wouldn't trade him straight up now with Spezza's back issues.
A healthy Spezza - no question. |

how does a +19 (when you don't play against the oppositions best players) prove that you're good defensively.
last season kuba played agaisnt the best players game in and game out, and had one of the best +/- ratings in teh league.......so does that mean he's one of the best defensive players in the NHL?
i'm waiting.........
i'm not hating on kadri, i think he's a good player. i'm laughing at the idiot who said tavares and ovechkin don't deserve hart trophy consideration, and then puts kadri as a favorite. |

Kadri is 22 and Spezza is 30. Kadri is getting better and we have seen Spezza at his best. I suppose you should go with the guy with less upside and is older by 8 years......come on man. i'm done. Go ahead get the last word in. |

you're done? have you run out of stupid for the day?
your arguments are baseless and completely moronic. by all means though, proclaim kadri as teh greatest 22 year in the world, based on 30 good games of sheltered minutes.
let's see how he does next year, when he's playing tough minutes on the 1st or 2nd line |

And by the way, this is a ridiculous topic. Tavares is very good, no doubt, but he's not deserving of the MVP over Crosby. Even with the game he's missed, Crosby is still 6 points up in the scoring lead and is averaging 1.55 points per game, whereas Tavares isn't even breaking a point per game level. Crosby is a league leading +26 and Tavares is a -5. How in God's name could anyone justify giving the Hart trophy to a MINUS player? Yes, Malkin is on the Pens, but aside from the powerplay, the two don't play together. Should Gretzky have not won the MVP just because he played on a team with Messier, Kurri, Coffey etc? And as far as who Crosby does play with, both Kunitz and Dupuis are not heralded snipers, but they go from being solid players to being part of the best line in hockey when playing with Sid. Crosby is the MVP and it isn't even close. - Emperor Filonius
Tavares is above ppg level idiot |

You said that Kadri was not a good defensive player.
If he wasn't good defensively he would be a minus player no matter who he played against.
The argument against Phaneuf for the last couple of years is that he's a poor defenseman because of his +/- right?
+/- shouldn't be considered one way of the other. The stat isn't based necessarily on your own play but also those around you. It shouldn't even be considered a personal stat IMO.
I'm not saying Ovechkin or Johnny T don't deserve nomination. I not suggesting that Kadri deserves nomination either. |
