I don't see the Hart going to anybody else other than Crosby. He was the most dominant player in the NHL before he tried to catch a puck in his mouth and failed. If he wasn't injured, this wouldn't even be a discussion.

So, how much of a season can a player miss and still be considered most valuable to his team? To me, if a guy's not playing, he's not he player "most valuable to his team." So, what percentage of a season does a guy have to play to win it, in your opinion?

IF he doesn't play another game in the regular season, he will still have played 75% of the season.

So playing 75% of your team's games is good enough to make you more valuable to your team than any other player in the league? As opposed to a player who plays almost every game and leads his team to the playoffs?

That is correct. A few playoff games makes people think Girioux is the top guy in the NHL. That came crashing down to reality quick, so I see your point about not doing it over enough games.

JT should win the hart for the pure fact alone he has to play with Boyes and Mouslon... -5 thats like +20 on most teams

Yes, considering the player in question, while playing, was instrumental in his team running away with the division and leading them to the second longest winning streak in the history of the game, and the team is only 2-2 since he's been out.

yes, when 75% of this specific player is better then 100% of the majority of the league.

Sorry, I don't buy that...I know +/- isn't everything when evaluating a player, but if you are the top player on your own team and are being touted for MVP, your line should be at least good enough to not be a minus.

I would have to give it to Crosby... I'd love for JT to win it but I just dont see people over looking what Crosby has done this year before the injury. I do think that JT and Crosby are the top 2 choices right now and you may be able to add Ovechkin if he continues what he is doing and the Caps make the playoffs...

Even in a shortened season it should be Crosby. However, it gets interesting if he doesn`t get a nomination because of his shortened season. The next most valuable are Kane or Toews. They would likely steal votes from each other. The next in line would be Kadri and getzlaf.

In order for me would be Crosby
Toews
Kane
Getzlaf
Kadri

Now you're confusing "best player" with "most valuable to his team." Now, if you want to use his team's record with/without him (although losing Neal probably plays a part as well), that's a different story. If you think that playing 75% of the season makes you more valuable to your team's success than a player playing for his team for 95-100% of the season, that's fine.

I have no problem with Crosby winning as he's a great player and definitely very valuable to his team. But to me, I'd give a VERY slight edge to Ovechkin because his team goes as he has, and for them to make the playoffs, he's going to need to do it for the rest of the season.

Are you trying to troll here, or what? Most people in Philly agreed that Lavi's comment was wrong. Soo....what was your point with using Giroux?

does that mean karlsson can still get consideration for teh norris.......he's been out for 2 months, and is still top 10 among d-men for goals and takeaways.

It's Crosby's to lose IMO but Ryan Getzlaf should get mentioned.

It can`t be Tavares. He`s in the top 10 in scoring and is STILL a -5. You can`t be a terrible defensive player and still be the MVP. More than points nee to be considered.

so kadri gets a nod over ovechkin, even though OV has more goals, pts, and has pretty much singlehandedly brought his team, that was dead last in the conference, back into a playoff position.

No, but Colin Wilson should win the Rocket Richard. Among qualified players, he has the highest shooting %. Now, if only he had accumulated the same amount of shots as the top shooters in the game.

so +/- now determines whether a player is bad defensively...............has nothing to do with the team, or goaltending.

hell, lidstrom won teh norris with an even +/- or he may have even been -1..............guess he sucked defensively too

It`s an MVP award not the best offensive player award. Until he plays even a little bit of D......no dice for OVI
