I don't think Statsny makes us much better. IMO we need a bonafide number 1 center, or a bonafide checking center. We have two middling 1-2 centers in Hodgson and Ennis. - sbroads24
Statsny is 52.9 on the dot and plays 2:13 per game on the pk.
His cap hit blows though. |

I am not saying I dont like them. We just dont know how far they are away from being NHL ready. I do like the trade a lot. I just think getting middle aged NHL proven talent in a Vanek trade is going to be better in the long run than prospects.
We are going to have to take salary back when we move Vanek. There is no way around that. - ImThatGuy
I don't consider a guy like Stastny, who is overpaid and disappointing, to be a good idea as an example to young guys
If we need "middle aged guys" then I want someone like Brown, Callahan, or even just find a way to keep Ott
Bringing in a higher priced "Stafford" is NOT the guy I want here as a "leader"
I'm not do sure we have to take all that much salary back,
That depends where we'd trade vanek

Just bc they had better rated prospects doesn't mean these guys aren't good
Minnesota had one of the best prospect groups in the NHL
http://www.hockeysfuture.com/teams/buffalo_sabres/
According to Hockey's Future,
Hackett has a 7.5 grade... Same as McCabe, Grigorenko and McNabb
Larsson has a 7.0, same as Armia who looks awesome... And better than Foligno at 6.5
I obviously like these guys better than you - jdfitz77
You are also using one sites opinion. How they rank players has been a huge debate in a hardcore keeper league I am apart of. Its basically a few peoples opinions.
Prospects are a crap shoot. Especially goalies!! |

Finally a true #1 center that Vanek has been wanting his entire career. It would be fun to watch!! |

Hackett has shown he can be good in the NHL... now it is his time to show if he can do it for an extended period of time |

Hodgson, Ennis & Grigorenko can all be ppg players IMO
I'm more focussed on getting more young talent around them than I am finding a "#1" type guy now
I wanna get a really good group of youngsters and let them grow up & develop all together like Pitt, Chicago, Edmonton, etc
Getting a #1 (if we even could... How's that Richards signing look now? I bet NYR fans HATE it),
Prob gets us to the playoffs quicker, but would only make us average & not true contenders...
Plus, how much young talent am I giving up to get this guy?

yeah he has been good minus this year. He has to be given the time to prove he can keep it going for a full season |

Hackett is ready now.
He was stuck behind Backstrom and Harding in Minny.
Next year it will be one of three options.
Miller/Hackett
Hackett/Enroth
Hackett/veteran fa
At least IMO anyways. - dadeadhead
I'm still holding out hope for
BERNIER / Hackett
Might just be wishful thinking though |

At some point all of the older comments were wiped. Which for me is great, because I would go hunting for something and waste waaayyyyyy too much time digging.
sucks when things like this are gone. |
