You would Trade Vaenk for 2 Middle tier prospect a late first rounder, and a 2nd. (+ we pay some of his salary) This team would be bad for a long time. - ImThatGuy
I don't know where you're coming up w some of this stuff?
A) paying some of his salary?
B) middle tier prospects?
Larsson was captain of his Swedish JRs team... That's SWEDEN, not some scrub team like Switzerland or something...
Hackett, when called up last season as a 21yr old, outperformed Backstrom & Harding w better GAA (2.37) and SV% (.922)
Granted, it was only 12games, but the bottom line is that he performed well when given the opportunity
Of course neither are a sure thing,
But I already know Stastny is a disappointment
And in a re-build,
It makes way more sense to bring in young talent, than to bring in an overpriced guy who isn't living up to his deal

He's so slow too. He could have had a break on the right wing in the 3rd but he knew full well he coulndn't beat the guy so he circled back. - Buffalo--Sabres
It sucks because the guy can be so dynamic at times. I have never seen a start to a season like Vanek had ( at least from a Sabres standpoint) but it was way too predictable that he would fall off like this. |

THAT!
All the pundits on NHL network called it too. The dissapearing acts are the biggest probelm with him. Every year the same thing. Time to move on. |

We are paying some of Pommers salary this year and next
Yes Middle tier prospects they are not hig end. not even the best that
Minnesota had. Minnesota had a better Goalie prospect and 3-4 other skater prospects.
Larsson is projected to be a 3rd line center.
Im not saying i dont like the trade it was a killing for Pommer what they got. |

Pegulla is eating about 995k of Pominville's cap hit as part of the trade. 200k this year and 795k next year. |

If u don't wanna get "prospects" back, I'd understand...
But how exactly does Stastny make us better?
He stinks
On pace for a whopping 50pts this year if he were to play 82games
Less than 60pts the previous two years as well
We gotta get a better player than him back in any deal |

Who was the better goalie prospect? Hackett could easily be just as good if not better than Miller |

Stastny's first four years wre much better than his last three
.70ppg in the last 3 seasons (57points for 82games)
That's a joke for 6.6mil
Trading Vanek for a "Pominville-like return" is a much better idea than trading for ANOTHER disappointing player with a bad contract
And I'd much rather have Ennis than Stastny - jdfitz77

plus i feel that we are getting much better prospect depth down the middle and need to focus on left wing.. |

Just bc they had better rated prospects doesn't mean these guys aren't good
Minnesota had one of the best prospect groups in the NHL
http://www.hockeysfuture.com/teams/buffalo_sabres/
According to Hockey's Future,
Hackett has a 7.5 grade... Same as McCabe, Grigorenko and McNabb
Larsson has a 7.0, same as Armia who looks awesome... And better than Foligno at 6.5
I obviously like these guys better than you |

I am not saying I dont like them. We just dont know how far they are away from being NHL ready. I do like the trade a lot. I just think getting middle aged NHL proven talent in a Vanek trade is going to be better in the long run than prospects.
We are going to have to take salary back when we move Vanek. There is no way around that. |

Thats why I propsed trading for Stastny and then flipping Ennis over to a team for a proven winger.
Just an idea. Can work with a number of different scenarios/players. |

I don't think Statsny makes us much better. IMO we need a bonafide number 1 center, or a bonafide checking center. We have two middling 1-2 centers in Hodgson and Ennis. |

True,
But the good thing about all our young centers...
Hodgson
Ennis
Larsson
Grigorenko
Girgensons
...is that they all have spent time on the wing as well, so it does give us some nice flexibility going forward to shift some guys around |

Hackett is ready now.
He was stuck behind Backstrom and Harding in Minny.
Next year it will be one of three options.
Miller/Hackett
Hackett/Enroth
Hackett/veteran fa
At least IMO anyways. |

agreed.. i hated the moving wingers to center we kept doing.. much rather it be the other way around..

I think the constant shifting has been a huge hinder to their game. Look at Ennis. He played the wing most of his NHL career and now that he is in the middle he is struggling in our own zone. Teach a kid a position and let him grow. Don't change your mind where you want him to play.

Larsson is one of those guys that will be an over achiever IMO, based on him being a captain of his junior team and responsible defensively, that was a good pick up, Hackett has had an off year but goalies are so tough to predict |

I could see Van moved to COL in the offseason. They have 10 Mil to spend with only 3 guys to sign.
Then we could move Ennis if we get a certain C from COL.
Add - was looking at Dalls Roster. Its terrible. Top Line Center in Vernon Fidler! - ImThatGuy
