Feaster has always said they will take the BPA. They literally make a list prior to the draft and go down the line.

Personally I like this strategy...you need to maximize assets, better player = bigger asset. That being said, you can't tell me position doesn't play some sort of factor in their overall rankings.

Seriously though my draft order goes Jones, MacKinnon, Drouin.

I think Barkov would be a safer pick over Drouin, but Drouin has more superstar potential.

Given our current situation and derth of high level talent, wouldn't a safer pick for top line talent be more advised? Both Drouin and Barkov have top line potential but Drouin is more risk reward. It's not like we are talking about picking a guy ranked 20th over Drouin because he is a much safer choice to make the NHL, likely as a 3rd or 4th line grinder. Either Jones, MacKinnon or Barkov would be a homerun for us, I don't think we need to worry about how far out of the park the ball is going to go.

Yeah and the fact Col basically has Jones locked up makes our decision a little easier. And like I said before if Florida finishes with the 2nd pick they take Drouin.

Edit: I also think we have to worry about Carolina, they're dropping faster than a whore's panties on pay day.

I agree... I think those have to be our top 3.

If we end up picking 4th though, who do you go with? Drouin or a guy like Monahan?

If Drouin is still on the table and the other 3 are gone, that makes it very tough. I would be entertaining offers from teams who may want to move up and see where that goes. I'm sure the Flames brass will have their lists prepared and go with what they see as BPA in lieu of a solid offer. That, however, still doesn't mean Drouin. If pressured, I would have to go with Drouin, I think. What about you?

Tough call. The one thing I heard Bob MacKenzie say about Monohan is that he plays all 200 ft of the ice. Can lite it up but won't compromise D to do it.

if you want a quick rebuild take drouin sign or trade for a center...
...pick a center and wait a lot longer to fill a center's role in nhl

I want a sniper....if we drop to 4 i'd take Drouin in a heartbeat.

The guys is always giving it 110% out there, never gives up on a play and flat out loves the game!

A lot easier said than done. We aren't looking to trade a prospect with loads of potential for yet another 3rd, maybe 2nd, line center. If you're suggesting we could trade Drouin for say a Couturier type, that may not be that easy.

First time commenting but Colin i've read your blogs a lot and quite enjoy them. Not trying to bash everybody, but in everyone's list nobody includes the top Russian prospect Valeri Nichushkin. If you look at the ISS scouting reports he is ranked second, ahead of Drouin and Mackinnon, and after his play at the world juniors it is easy to see why. The guy is 18 years old, 6'3" (or 6'4" depending on the site), already almost 200 lbs and can play centre or wing. He's played in the KHL which makes him more NHL ready then guys like Drouin or Mackinnon. If Calgary is looking at BPA then I honestly would not be surprised to see him go ahead of the other two. Only risk is the Russian factor, kinda like Radulov. Personally I would like to see him in action a little more, but obviously the scouts are seeing something in him after making the jump from 7th to 2nd in the rankings. ISS has it going: Jones, Nichuskin, Mackinnon, Drouin, Nurse, Zadorov then Barkov.

I wouldn't trade any of the top 5 picks for Couts.

I noticed the ISS have Barkov's first name as Sasha. I thought his name was Alexsander??? Probably just a typo.
