Another ugly, boring game.

Hopefully that game showed Poile that he can't have a 'youth movement' and expect this team to move forward next season. However, now that Erat's reason for asking out is well known it's going to be tough to convince anyone, FA-wise, to head to Nashville next season. Poile's going to have to do it through trades.

Quite honestly, a youth movement isn't what this team needs right now. With only modest success in the playoffs they need to make a push to get better, not younger. You can do both if you do it right, but going whole hog on the youth movement will set this team back to expansion days, and no one wants to go through that again. Not right now.

DP will have to over pay for 1 or 2 FA but has to be a 1st day moves not 3 days into the signing period, trade for another piece or two. This team needs a Steve Ott or Vern Fiddler in the locker room. DP needs to pick up a sniper/ playmaker to move this team. Marion Gaborik lookks like a steal for CBJ's! You will be suprised this off season, more players will be moved & there will be some good FA's.

There may be some great free agents, but who is going to want to come here? That's the biggest hurdle to overcome, and the Preds can't really overpay anyone. That salary cap is coming down next season, we still have to pay Hornqvist, Josi and various other RFA. Poile is going to have to deal.

Mark Howard made a good point this morning saying that Poile may be able to flip a lesser salary player for a better, more expensive player simply because teams are going to have to unload some contracts. That might be a good option.

That's why I think Poile has to target a couple of young but proven scoring talents who are going to be RFA's this year. There's tremendous upside to me in those type of offers. First, you might score a great talent on the upswing of his career for a long-term deal. Second, if the other team matches...they have less cap room to play in the FA market.

And I do think the Preds will have to overpay to bring in a couple top-line forwards. But they are already overpaying for a Goalie and #1 D-man. Those overpayments are offset by some shrewd value-type contracts on contributing players.

As Predaceous mentioned, it's going to be hard to convince some of the big name UFA types (Iginla, Ribeiro, etc.) to come to Nashville when Erat left because of Poile's "youth movement." The Preds will have to overpay to overcome that perception in the marketplace. Like anything else...MONEY talks!

No more grinders (fiddler, ott) ! We need players whom can handle the puck and put it on net. So sick and tired of watching the dump and chase as we have very few that can actually handle the puck across the blue line. If this group from Milwaukee ever wants to play in the NHL then these 6'1 plus boys need to start parking their ass in front of the net and start getting their nose a little dirty. 15 shots on goal last night really ..... Anyone notice that there hasn't been any kind of quote in the Tennessean from our captain in the last week ??????? Maybe he is not the one to lead.
