The Blue Jays won in 92 and 93.

Just saying.

They've been so irrelevant lately, I completely forgot about Joe Carter.

No it doesn't impress me. His job is to stop the puck.

Go back and look at my edit. His Vezina season is still the anomaly by a long shot.

Yep, the team in front of the goalie has absolutely no bearing on a goalies performance whatsoever. Being dead last in special teams, bottom 3 in puck possession, dead last in shots allowed.... it all means nothing to a goalie.

Bottom line is all his other seasons read the same but 09/10.

He is the same goalie now as he was in 05-09 and 10-13.

The team in front of him is the reason why his gga is at 2.77. His highest since 06/07.

The team has more to do than GAA. Taking fewer penalties, spending less time shorthanded, giving up fewer shots when the other team has the man advantage, all reasons why his numbers were higher in 09-10 on special teams.

The team cant get any worse this year. They are performing dead last or a couple of spots from dead last. Its not because Miller is any worse now than he has been for the last 5 years, its because the team in front of him is worse.

Brodeur this year

gga 2.18 sv% .908.

The team is why his gga is so low, he is the reason his sv% isn't so good.

.921 SV% even strength vs a .908 SV% total

He hasnt given up a SH goal. Its his PK SV% thats bringing it down. Go figure, when the other team has a man advantage is when hes at his worst.

He's only had to make 14 saves while up a man.

His team only gives up 24.27 shots a game when he's in net. The problem is he is only saving 22.05 shots per game. Again last I checked his job is to make saves.

Stop over analyzing the numbers.

Miller is the same goalie now as he has been his entire career as a starter. His only season where the numbers are drastically different is in 09/10.

The above avg es sv% vs above avg total sv% has been done 128 times(goalies had to have had 41gp) from 05/06-11/12.

Only 3 goalies have done in every year. Lundqvist, Vokoun, and Luongo.)

If you'd like I can type up the list for you.

- leafs2

I am from green bay.... we celebrate championships more than any other franchise in the nfl... so I can make fun of you in toronto right?

FYI...

Maple leafs have had no parades since 67
Blue jays have had no parades since 93
And the Raptors are the laighing stock of the nba EVERY season...

So congrats on that.. you sound like a cubs fan...

No one is overanalyzing anything.

I'm not analyzing how many shots were taken from the right side compared to the left side, how many went blocker or glove, how many were 10 ft out of 30 ft out.

He has a .921 ES, and a 1.000 when his team has the PP.

Why should I be surprised that his overall SV% is being brought down when his team is shorthanded, and especially when his team is a bottom 3rd PK team.

53 goalies in total have done the above avg overall sv% and es sv%, a total of 128 times (when playing in 41 games) between 05/06-11/12.

An avg of 18.3 goalies per season do it or more than half the NHL starters.

Sorry I don't find Miller doing it all that impressive.

By the way, I'd argue this for any goalie, not just Miller. The way a team plays in front of its goalie says more for a goalies stats than the talent of the goalie.

Its why Bobrovsky has been pretty impressive this season. His dead is bottom 5 in puck possession and shots against, yet hes ranked at the top 5 for GAA, EV SV% and total SV%. His team also spends more time on the PP than shorthanded.

Pekka Rinne benefits from an amazing defensive system. His team is like 28th in puck possession, but they are 6th in fewest shots given up. Thats unbelievable.

Goalies are more or less a product of their team. In Ryan Miller's case, he has done extremely well when his team is absolute poop. When his team was one of the top PK's and middle of the road across the board, he won a Vezina.

I'd kill to see Miller play on a team that was top 10 in puck possession, top 10 in allowing the fewest shots against, and top 10 in PK. Its partly the reason why Emery has career numbers there this season, and why Crawford is doing so well.

Serious question.

Have you run those numbers for every year of his career?

Yep. When I was originally responding to you, I actually had the ranks for every season instead of just 12-13 and 09-10. But I deleted them because I figured you wouldnt read them all anyway and I was comparing this season to the Vezina season to begin with.

His first "full" season in the NHL. I mean, I guess I can expect a rookie goalie to win the Vezina, its been done so many times before.

Dryden didnt win the Vezina when he won the Calder, he won it the year after.

Barasso and Belfour are the only 2.

When it was suggested to move Ott and possibly get a 1st or 2nd round pick back, some people lost their minds.

Do you think this team would have won the last 2 games without him?

Two seasons ago the Sabres made a late run that seemed to bode well for the next season.

One season ago the Sabres made a late run that seemed to bode well for the next season.

This season the Sabres are making a late run yet again.

Does anyone really think that things will be different next season with the same buffoon running the operation?
