If moving Vanek got us one of the top 3 picks, plus something else, I'd do it. I know Vanek isn't old, but he's already said he's not interested in sticking around for a rebuild. There's no guarantee that they'll be that much better next year. So then he's going to walk at the end of the season. I'd rather get something for him than lose him for nothing.

Yeah maybe if we got a roster player who doesn't suck.

I'm pretty sure he said he doesn't want to stay if we do a long-term rebuild like the Pens or Oilers, but if we wanted to do a quick re-tool he would like to stay. I think Darcy is seeing this as a flash rebuild rather than a long-term one, but I could be wrong.

Ruff was here as coach when some of these guy were 2 ys old.
I bet they didn't gell well . and maybe Ruff had gotten burned out. Not from lack of talent. just the same walls every day.
So much for the "fire Ruff and he will be picked up right away"

Only 1 other team has fired their coach, and I can't blame them for going with the AHL guy they had. He was pretty much the top candidate for an NHL position. Doesn't mean he'll be successful, but based on the trends of the league, it's not surprising that they hired Cooper.

I don't think Vanek signs an extension and I would be too afraid to risk letting him walk at the end of the season. He doesn't want to stick around through a rebuild. I say get something for him to contribute to the rebuild then.
- HonkFortheGoose

I don blame Vanek for not wanting to wait around. I think he and miller are gone at the draft an the return is going to be fantastic! Add that to all the picks we have and I think this "reboot", as Ted Black called it, could look like Philly, Montreal or Ottawa after their off year.

It's still probably going to take more than just next year. And then we see Vanek walk. Too risky, IMO.

It's funny, as much of a hardass as lindy was, he sure played favorites on a nightly basis. Rolston has come in and pretty much benched everyone on the team at some point since he's been here; he's supposed to be a players coach and I really like that he's showed the entire team where they stand from the beginning. Should he be the coach going forward? Who knows? But they do look better overall since he took over.

Agreed . it has seemed like the core ran the team and had all the say so in who played and who didn't . I love the Coach runs the team now. Miller seems to have bought into it. Vanek is next.

That's probably the ideal situation. But I'm not thinking it's out of the realm of possibility that it takes longer than 1 year as well.

Miller has looked better recently. 11 goals in his last 5 games is something I can deal with.

Yeah its impossible to tell what the team will be like next year, there hasn't been a speck of consistency or continuity this year so next year is kind of a crap shoot.

I think we will keep Vanek until at least the deadline next year, just my humble opinion. If we have a good season we could re-sign him.

I know we could get a huge return in a trade, but our roster is already kind of thin as it is.

I agree. That save on Elias was pretty crazy.

I don't think there's any rule saying they can't trip them. Elias pulled him out of position so he went for the poke check. Got the player instead. He still had to do a major split to keep the puck out of the net.

Definitely. I liked Gerbe's shot in the shootout as well. I wish he was able to get some more space to work on the ice during the games. He's got some skills. He just never has much time or space to work with.

I was so pissed when he said that. Its like he thought Miller did it intentionally or something, he was clearly going for the poke check. You don't just let go of your stick because you missed the puck with the poke.

Millbury is such a clown, if I were a legitimate NHL player/expert I would be pissed about him having the title "NHL Expert." Congrats Millbury you had a mediocre hockey career then destroyed an NHL franchise. Expert?

Edit: You also punched a 12 year old in the face. Congrats expert.

Yeah that was a real nice shot. Brodeur had Ott's number though haha. Too bad about Ennis, I think he had him beat if he didn't fumble the puck.

Honestly I liked Gerbe for a while, but he has no place in the NHL. He just isn't a good enough player to not be scoring goals consistently. It's a shame too because he has serious skill

I so did not think that was going to be possible. Especially with Brodeur in the other end.

They need to figure out how to create some space for him. If they can do that, he'll start getting on the score sheet. I almost think that he would be better at center like Ennis because it gives them more space to work with, but I don't think he's even remotely big enough to be able to play that position in the NHL.
